“Boys and Girls”

Season 2 Episode 15

“Corporate” forces the female Dunder Mifflin employees to attend a “women in the workplace” seminar, conducted by Jan. Miffed by being excluded, Michael assembles all the men in the warehouse for a “men in the workplace” seminar. This backfires when the warehouse workers decide to form a union. Jan offers Pam an internship in graphic design in New York. Jim encourages her to pursue it, but Roy quashes the idea.

The whole episode is great. I loved the way scenes that showed teh difference on how Jim views Pam and how Roy views Pam. The best one was when Jim comes back from the male bonding to check a message. As he is getting ready to leave, Pam comes out and they chat a bit. When Pam tells him about the internship in New York, Jim responds with, “Nice! Well, what’s it all about?”

“Um–”, Pam replies.

“I think you should do it.” Jim inserts.

That is classic Jim.

Classic Jim

But, to Roy’s credit, the way he handled the crush by approaching Jim and making it cool was impressive. That was a classy move. Of course, the way he talked about Pam in that conversation was classis Roy.

I’m confused. Your opinion?

I was a little miffed by that also. At first, I was suprised that Roy would do something like that, especially after in “The Alliance”, him and Jim almost got into a fight over what Roy thought was something going on with Jim and Pam.

I don’t know- maybe he’s just relieved to have someone Pam has to “babble” to besides Roy, who doesn’t seem to want to be bothered. Then again, maybe Roy has some alterior motive. I just don’t know.

Maybe I’m not remembering correctly, but wasn’t Pam the only one that was told that it was a small crush a long time ago?? Didn’t everyone else just hear that Jim liked Pam? If so, then it was Pam that told Roy herself about the crush.. right???

A great episode. Pam did an excellent girl cry.. the I’m doing fine….can’t hold it back any long… breakdown. And I loved the “through the blinds” convo jim and pam had when she started yelling at him.

I don’t know how much longer the jim/pam thing can go on before something comes out of it.. but when that happens.. then what? some say the show will “jump the shark”… and they have a whole nother season!

My guess is that Pam smartens up about Roy and calls off the wedding. But, that doesn’t mean that she and Jim get together right away. I think that she pulls the “I just need some time to find myslf” and I think that will be fun for the show because Jim and Pam can still be good friends but they won’t get right to the relationship.

Did everyone catch the NBC teaser announer line of “A friendship crosses a line”… Now other than encouraging Pam to spread her wings beyond her administrative island, which he’s either done before or is perfectly in character, I didn’t see any major line crossing between those two last night. And it was SO MEANLY misleading to splice Jim’s talk with Pam up against her camera cry. So, who crossed the line? Was it Michael’s support of the failed union initiative?

AND WHAT ON EARTH was Darryl thinking letting Michael continue to operate the forklift after knocking over the first set of shelves — he TRASHED the warehouse. I honestly thought it was a plot device to kill the union movement and let Michael off the hook by getting Darryl fired for all the inventory damage Michael caused. (Would that move Roy into the supervisor job?) My partner suggested Michael bought them off with the pizza over lunch but I didn’t think it was that simple…

I still say that Roy felt threatened by Jim. He was like…making sure that Jim wasn’t going to take Pam away. That’s why he threw in a “I know you’re a good guy” in his convo.

I thought it was not in charecter for Roy to say it was “cool” UK Roy would of said something, and US roy should still feel bad towards Jim after the basketball game.

But maybe because he “set a date” he thinks he has truely won Pam’s love.
