How Do You Watch The Office?
I love the emails that I get from readers of this blog. So many different kinds of people love watching The Office. It got me wondering, how do you watch the show? Do you gether a group of friends? Or do you choose solo? Is your whole family in to it or does your sisters just not get it. (I once watched it with a person that actually thought Michael’s jokes were funny. She didn’t realize that the rest of us were laughing at him…not his jokes.)
Personally, I’m in Las Vegas so I wait for the fine folks in the East Coast to up the show to the torrent sites for me to grab it and watch it on my computer. Usually I have the whole show grabbed and watched before it even starts here on the West Coast. But, when it comes on TV, I watch it again. (To be sure no parts were missing.) Then, when the episode is released the next day on iTunes, I grab it again so I can have a copy clean of network symbols and advertisements.
I watch it three times in two days? Maybe that is why I know all the quotes so well.
How/where/with whom do you watch it?

My husband and I watch it together (we have no children yet). We sit together on our sofa, with some snacks or maybe a soda, and just enjoy.
My husband has a wickedly amusing laugh, and a very off-beat sense of humor, so watching him watch the show is almost as amusing as watching the show by itself.

No one I know watches it besides me. My wife doesn’t even find it funny, but I think she would if she gave it a chance. So I think of it as my guilty pleasure that I enjoy with you guys…

My wife does not like it, So i am a solo watcher.
I watch it the night after on my TIV0. and I rewind more than once to get the whole joke. I am usually lauging loud enough my wife says to be quiet as to Not wake the kids.
You guys are My ONLY Office friends. Thanks for being there.

I watch it and then get it through iTunes.

I often wonder how hard it would be for people to get into the show at it’s current state. I wonder if some of the jokes are funnier because we know the background of the employees.
How long do you think it would take for a new watcher to get a feel for what the employees are like?

I watch it with my old roommate and her boyfriend at their house. Her boyfriend and I get it much faster than her and are usually laughing so loudly that we have to rewind the TiVo to catch the next joke. I have also watched it with my sister–who likes it a little less than I do–and the rest of my family. I don’t think my parents get it.

I always watch it by myself when it first airs, then I watch it again with my family (thanks to DVR) immediately following.

I make my boyfriend watch it with me when it first airs; then I watch it again by myself at least ten times after that, to transcribe quotes. It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it.

Usually I watch it the first time Friday night on after tivo-ing it (school takes up too much time), or if i dont have school the next day I watch it with mom and dad, and after watching it the first time, i download it and watch it over and over during one of my week-long office marathons. (Every once in a while i take a week and spend a few hours a night watching and by the end of the week Ive watched the entire series. I always cry during the Jam scene in “Booze Cruise”, aka 27 seconds.)

I’m lucky that my entire family loves it. And I got all my roommates hooked as well. I think it takes one excited fan to convert many!

I watch it with my roommate and then I get it on itunes. I’ve recruited many watchers…including one guy friend that thought it was a real document. Haha. I love Al.
April 25th, 2006 12:56
I meant documentary. whoops!
April 25th, 2006 12:57
I meant to say documentary…not document!
April 25th, 2006 12:58
I watch it, then I buy the really good episodes on iTunes…
April 25th, 2006 13:33
I watch it alone, then i invite all my friends over throughout the next week and make them watch it.
April 25th, 2006 13:39
I go it solo! Don’t get me wrong, I’d absolutely love to share The Office moments with my friends, but since they’ve all got their own things to do… I sit down on my couch, grab a blanket, grab a bite to eat, and get ready to laugh like hell!
I almost always spend the next day reliving moments from the episode with my friends (who may or may not have watched it themselves), and distracting others around me.
I got both of my parents and a couple of friends to ask me what ‘up dog’ was.
Good times. (And with The Office, when is it not??)

I am a Scranton resident who is studying abroad in Santiago, Chile for the semester. At home I normally watch The Office with my friends in my apartment; we record it on the DVR and watch it 20 or so minutes after it airs so we can ffwd through the commercial breaks.
Here in Chile, I’ve been buying the new episodes from iTunes every Friday and watching them alone in my bedroom.

I watch it naked, while eating Jello.
Strangely, no one wants to join me.
April 25th, 2006 17:33
Just a handful of my co-workers watch it, so I watch it alone at home and discuss it the next day. I’ve been trying to get people to watch, but when they do, they don’t get it. It’s not as much fun if you haven’t watched it from the beginning.
April 25th, 2006 17:45
I always watched with my roommates and a few extras (maybe 6 of us) as it airs on the West Coast. Now that I am home this summer (at a house with no cable) I wait for the torrents, though I would be interested to know what sight you find them on to watch before it even airs here, Brian). I usually look on TvTorrents.com, what about you?
April 25th, 2006 17:55
I tape Earl and The Office as I watch CSI, and then I watch it at 10:00 with my brother’s girlfriend (who got into thew show when she borrowed my First Season DVDs).
April 25th, 2006 18:09
What I don’t get, is how some people can “not get it”.
I can see how they might not appreciate ALL of the layers (ironic, sad, pathetic, heroic, etc..), but many of the jokes are right there on the surface for everyone to enjoy.
I can understand some folks not warming up to the BBC version becuse it may have a little too hard an edge, but the American verson seems completely accessable to me.
April 25th, 2006 18:14
Also, Miles knows how to spell accessible (he just can’t type).
April 25th, 2006 18:23
bert…bless your heart.
April 26th, 2006 19:28

April 26th, 2006 22:19
My best friend and I watch it together, synchronized, in iTunes. We discuss it as we go over IM, as she lives in Denver and I live in NYC.
April 28th, 2006 12:44
Actually, last night I watched it with my whole family, and my friends! We have converted many The Office lovers. We usually watch it in the basement and then buy them on itunes the next day
Everyone pretty much got the jokes, but they thought Dwight always wears a police UNIFORM.
