“Casino Night”

Wow! Wow! Wow! For those of you who have not seen the episode yet, you’ll want to skip this post for now but come on back!
The finale was well-written, very entertaining, and incredibly well done by the actors.
My Favorite Parts:
- Jim playing the mind game with Dwight…and him later trying to move his bobblehead. (pictured above)
- Michael trying to juggle Jan and Carol on the phone. I loved how Pam would stay on the phone until he got the dumb line out.
- Speaking of dumb lines, Micahel’s ebonics was awesome. (Michael dropped a duece on all of us with this episode.)
- And of course the conversation in the parking lot and the scene at Jim’s desk. I could hardly hear it over the screaming of my wife and sister, but we watched it again and it was just as powerful.
Alright, let’s hear your thoughts!!!

All I can say is wow. Best episode so far. I have been a Jam fan since the beginning, and this episode was just……. amazing. I litterally couldn’t breathe that last ten minutes of the show. Part of me hates NBC for leaving us off on the worst cliffhanger, but the other part loves them for allowing the creation of the best television show ever. Only 4 months. Yupppeee
May 11th, 2006 19:50
possibly the greatest finale ive ever seen, hands down. the acting was great from everyone and the writers are really bringing out everyone more into the show. creed has been golden for the past 3 episodes. the duce line had me rolling, it was great. the ending was crazy. that stuff came out of no where. stuff like that is usually done when a show isnt coming back for shock effect. steve writing it into the season finale when everyone knows its coming back for another season(hopefully many more) is pure genious. its official…Steve Carell can do no wrong!
May 11th, 2006 19:51
WOWZERS - What a fantastic episode!!! LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! I almost fell out of my chair when Jim told her that he was in love with her and when she walked up “upset” I HATED the show at that moment! Man did I want them to hookup!!! - Donna
May 11th, 2006 19:58
That was amazing. I was worried they would just leave it with the conversation in the parking lot. I am SO glad they didn’t. What a great episode. I can’t wait to find out what happens next season…I just wish it wasn’t so far away. By the way, I love that Jim wasn’t wearing a tux. The sweater fit him perfectly! I still can’t believe how much I loved this episode.
May 11th, 2006 20:01
That was…what Kerry said, amazing. I can’t believe I cried. I love that Jim cried. wow. i think my favorite part (besides the kiss of course) was Pam holding up the umbrella. I really don’t see how I’m going to be able to wait until the fall.
May 11th, 2006 20:07
I absolutely loved this ep along with all the rest of you.
I am wondering, though, how they’ll handle Jam in the next season. It changes the whole dyamanic of the show (where no one ever grows or changes). They’ll have to be careful to not let it become justanother romantic comedy.
May 11th, 2006 20:22
wow, what a turning point. Can’t say what will happen next, but I can’t wait. So glad at least Jam progressed, theyve been in the background lately. Quite an emotional ending, so great. so great.
May 11th, 2006 20:23
I loved it…I can’t even describe how much I loved it
May 11th, 2006 21:00
AAAAAAAAAAAAAA FINALLY!!
And now we have to wait?? AUGH!
May 11th, 2006 21:06
Fantastic episode. I think a lot of other shows could have given us an episode that was big on dramam and light on humor. Not The Office! Plenty of laughs and the last segment just bowled me over. I can’t wait for the next season to start. The parking lot scene! Wow! Excellent acting. I hope they sumbit this episode for the Emmys.
May 11th, 2006 21:29
The kiss at the end was the best I’ve seen, because it was not like TV. It was like real life, which is exactly the point of the Office. Loved it.
May 11th, 2006 21:54
has anyone got a screenshot of “the kiss” from this episode yet?
May 11th, 2006 22:32
All I have to say is that I set off my “key finder” with my screaming and “OH MY GOD”-ing at the end of the episode. My heart was racing. I’ve watched the end three times so far. My boyfriend had to sit me down and tell me to stop freaking out. ^^;;

So glad they allowed a happy ending–at least for now. I say “for now” because while tonight’s finale relieves some of the Jam flirtation tension from this season, it potentially sets up a whole new conflict the writers can play off of next season, assuming they pick up right where they left off: that the kiss and Jim’s profession of love will throw a major wrench into Pam’s wedding plans.
I’m predicting we see Pam backpedal from that romantic moment and fall back into her white-bread world of plastic bride-n-groom figurines and bad wedding cover bands. That, in turn, could set up a scenario where Jim has to convince her to “follow her bliss” and tries to win her back, which I’m sure won’t go over well with Pam’s fiancee.
After all, if Pam becomes fully realized as an altogether confident, self-assured woman who goes after the man she really wants after just one season instead of the woman-who-settles-for-less as she’s been built up to be so far, the show loses some of the tension that makes it so fabulous to begin with. So I’m thinking we take ten steps forward tonight but can expect next season to fall a few steps back to keep things interesting.
Another alternative is that they have to keep their romance secret from the rest of the office, which to me seems like a pat scenario that you’d see on any other show.
Any other guesses out there?
May 12th, 2006 02:27
i laughed, i cried, and my husband told me i care way too much about this show…he’s prolly right. with last nights episode being as big as it was, is anyone else afraid there wont be a fourth season??
May 12th, 2006 03:40
I AM SO UTTERLY FLOORED! I sent a text message to everyone I know saying “Oh! My! God!” I just cannot beleive it! It feels so sublime to see the ending. And Pam telling her mom “I think I do, too” just rocked me. THIS IS GREAT! Dammit! I wish this was a daily soap opera. Well, maybe not. I look forward to this all week, and I might have to quit my job if it was on daily. LOVE IT! COME ON iTunes, release it already, so I can watch it again!
May 12th, 2006 03:49
Yes!! Yes!! My wife and I agreed that the feeling created by the last ten minutes was exactly what we felt when we told each other we were in love a little over five years ago. I have to admit that it was so well done that I have trouble separating it from reality sometimes.
May 12th, 2006 03:53
I loved this episode — i love that he told her just because he felt she needed to hear it. i hate him for waiting until just a scant few weeks before her wedding.
i thought the kiss was weak though. i watched it a few times and it was like he just slapped his lips against her face. it wasn’t what i’d hoped for.
the other great things about this episode are: Cray stealing things, winning the fridge and saying “thanks, I’ve never had a fridge” when he goes to pick it up.
Kevin’s band video — awesome. Scrantonicity is an awesome name for a band. that rocked. Kevin cracks me up when he is talking, then smiles really big and says “that was cool.”
I was really worried back when i heard nbc was starting this show. i must say — it has surpassed my expectations (being a big bbc version fan) and i love how they’ve followed story lines but have given it a totally wonderful new and unique feel without “ruining” things.
i love this show. and i wonder how long we have to wait for the next episode. especially because pam’s wedding is in “june” and the series probably won’t start up again until october.
May 12th, 2006 03:57
I’m with Lindsay.
The beginning with Pam and the umbrella was great. Especially the little wink she gave Jim and her smile when she held it up to the camera in the break room.
I think the episode was so great. My husband and I were wooping and hollering too. We were so excited when Jim told Pam he loved her, and then we got really quiet when Pam rebuffed him.
Then, in the office, when she was on the phone, we both looked at each other and wondered what her mother was saying.
And then Jim came to the office. I was hollering again and when they kissed it was like…
AMEN! and FINALLY!
I can’t wait for the new season…
Does anyone know where I can re-watch the episode? We don’t own a DVR or TiVo or VCR…so I couldn’t tape it.
May 12th, 2006 04:03
In the immortal words of Chris Daughtry and Elvis:
“A little less conversation, a little more action”
I am dying. I can’t wait to go home and play it back a million times. Utterly brilliant episode.
May 12th, 2006 04:19
I’m so happy! Especially because I’d been looking forward to this so much, and I was not disappointed. All night I wanted to go watch it again–but that would just prove to my husband that I am, indeed, nuts! And my husband missed the “I think I do” part on the phone with Pam’s mom–you just know what that question was!
Well done. I can savor this awhile. Not sure if I’ll make it all summer, but this should get me through a couple of weeks at least!
May 12th, 2006 04:23
Just the best finale ever! John K. is quite an actor. He and Jenna have incredible chemistry that I totally buy into… and for a sitcom that is saying a lot!
With that said, I think it was a great episode all the way through.
Favorite Line: “I’m quite the philanderer” LMAO. (He means Philanthropist!).
May 12th, 2006 04:39
Amy, The episodes are available for purchase on iTunes I believe.
May 12th, 2006 04:57
my heart melted. MELTED!
May 12th, 2006 05:07
“I hate so much about the things that you choose to be.” So many awesome lines, now that I’ve watched the last 10 minutes 10 plus times I can go back and savor the other great lines.
May 12th, 2006 05:11
oh my goodness. there was no heatbeat or breathing from either my husband or me the last five minutes!!
I never wanted them to get together (for lack of a boring outcome).. but after seeing the way they did it.. incredible. a show has NEVER made you feel so completely real like that. I wouldn’t have felt anymore nervous if I were in the situation.
I was in so much shock that I barelly remember the kiss.. why didn’t I tape it??
And I loved the whole Jan thing too… her packed bag and all.
And how Dwight was so excited for Michael having two ladies.. that was cute.
May 12th, 2006 05:32
I liked the huge smile Dwight got on his face when Michael kissed him!
May 12th, 2006 05:43
Favorite part: when Dwight kisses Angela and then she slaps him. The looks on both of their faces is priceless.
About Jam: I though for sure that Jim was going to hook up with Jan. THen, I thought for sure that Jim was going to tell Pam that he was transferring. Much to my surprise, he didn’t and told her the truth! I loved how it was so different than your usual TV declaration of love - it was realistic and sweet and perfect.
May 12th, 2006 05:46
If you’re an officetally visitor, you’ve read this. If you’re not, here’s my analysis:
Oh. My. God. THEY KISSED! THEY KISSED! THEY FREAKING KISSED!!!!!!!!
Perfect. Absolutely perfect. From the amazing teaser (Pam wordlessly holding up that umbrella was priceless.) Michael had two dates, and Steve Carell was brilliant in they way he played that out with Michael. I also gotta give him props for writing what was easily my favorite episode.
The way he scripted him with the two girls was great. Jan obviously likes him now, and one of my favorite scenes in the episode was when Jan and Jim went out side to both think about their futility. I think Jan offering Jim a smoke will soon become one of my favorite lines ever. It was just interesting. This was also the first time Jan mentioned her relationship with Michael to someone other than Michael himself. I thought the way it was scripted was great, and the way John K. delivered the unsypathetic “I don’t know why either” was awesome.
Ryan getting a drink for Kelly. Jim wondering why he hasn’t killed her yet, or at least stop pretending to like her. Funny shit.
One more Jan/Michael thing, Im actually a fan of that relationship, so I was a little disappointed. Coming soon: My first fanvid. It will be JL/MS with the Goo Goo Doll’s “Iris” as the backgrond music.
Personally, I felt the Dwangela development to be lacking. They had one cute part together, then the producers slapped both Dwight and us fans in the face by ending their time during the episode so abruptly.
One more paragraph of one-sentence comments then on to Jam. The supersize thing was an excellent idea. Phyllis looked like she was out of the 20’s and it was awesome. Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration didn’t say his tagline. I want Kevin’s band at my wedding. (Even though I’m 15). I love Creed so much.
On to Jam, finally.
The Jam in this episode started from the very begining. Pam helping in that prank. With Roy standing right there. Awesome.
Then there was the poker match between the two of them. Which was cute, but the PB&J meter didn’t move much. And then shit hit the fan.
Jim went to talk to Jan. It was awesome. She talked about her relationship futility, he was kinda scared to. Then they mentioned Stamford, which he said earlier he is really considering transfering to. Scaryness. Seriously.
Then, IT happened. Roy fired the first shot though. He left (He has a thing for leaving corprate functions), and told Jim to take care of Pam for him, or something like that. And he did. I literally screamed when he finally told her. And then she said she can’t. And then Jim cried. And then I cried. And then there was the shot of Pam talking to her mother. I’ve decided that her mother almost knew that Pam realizes how perfect Jim is for her. I think they have enough phone conversation and her mother’s intuition kicked in. Its just a guess, because we’ve only seen Pam’s mom once and heard her once, but thats my theory. And Jim walked in to that dark room. And they shared a kiss. I’ll time it as soon as it comes out on iTunes. It was amazing. And Pam enjoyed it. A lot. And so did Jim. I don’t think Jim’s leaving Scranton before he knows how this one will end.
Well, its been a good season. I’ve done three after-episode comments, and you can expect they’ll be just as long next year. I love it here. I can’t wait fot the webisodes. I can’t wait for Season 3. Over the summer I plan on truly finishing my initiation into Office fandom, by watching the entire BBC series. I hope some cool stuff happens over the summer, like interviews and fanvids including Kiss #2. As I said, I’d like to get in the buisness. That’s all for now.
J
May 12th, 2006 06:04
Fantastic ending. The writing is so original that it is worthless to guess how the next season will start, and how all the relationships will end up after the summer. The only thing I can say for sure is that it will be original and probably a little unbelieveable.
Lots of good lines in this episode, lots of really funny and subtle humor. Yeah for Jim and Pam! I didn’t expect him to come back into the office and kiss–and Pam Kissed him back! I’m looking forward to the DVD’s and the summer mini episodes!
May 12th, 2006 06:10
Jan packed an over-night bag..hmmm..
May 12th, 2006 07:55
Funniest parts to us:
* The conversation with Darryl Philbin (Miter Rogers.) What does “Dinkin flicker” mean? And what’s with the handshake?
* Angela slapping Dwight then smiling about it
* The fact that Jan packed a bag
I think the poker game between Pam and Jim was foreshadowing the final scene. They both called each other’s bluffs and put all the cards on the table.
May 12th, 2006 09:36
“Thanks, I’ve never owned a fridge” - Creed
“I’m dropping a duece tonight” - Michael
“I’m in love with you Pam” - Jim
Best Finale EVER!!
May 12th, 2006 10:01
Back again–
LOVED IT! I watched it back again today, and maybe I’m reading too much into it, but I think Steve threw in some neat foreshadowing about THE MOMENT all through the episode.
1. Jim says he respects people who follow their dreams, but he has none. (Subtext: Because he can’t)
2. Pam says of the videos– “There’s a KISS cover band”
3. Kevin’s band plays “Don’t Stand So Close to Me”, a classic song about impossible love
4. In his wacko speech at the casino, Michael makes reference to “old friends, new lovers” (and “the disabled”– that was just hilarious)
The whole show was fantastic! I loved Michael’s throwaway reference to “The Black Eyed Crowes”!! Awesome!
May 12th, 2006 10:09
Beautiful episode. Go Jim!! Finally!!!
May 12th, 2006 10:22
The show deserves an Emmy. It’s the best comedy on TV since Sienfeld. But it’s more like a dramedy.
Thanks to the writers who dared to show that the good guys can stand up for themselves. Now pam has a little prooving to do.
May 12th, 2006 10:44
I want MTV or NBC to run the full video of Kevin’s Band-and I want to buy a tshirt of his band-LOL
May 12th, 2006 10:53
OMG–just finished watching it for like the 25th time–for those who TIVOed it–play the part where Roy and Pam are at the table after she wins at a game of roulette and then the camera cuts to Jim sitting with Ryan–Ryan says something to Jim but can’t read his lips but it looks like he is saying to Jim “you haven’t talked to her?” Please someone review the scene and see if you can figure out what Ryan is saying to Jim.
May 12th, 2006 10:59
Quote from Toby-”It felt really good to take money from Michael. Gonna chase that feeling.” Love the Michael/Toby relationship!
Wish they gave more lines to Oscar and Meredith!
May 12th, 2006 16:17
Agreed the best season finale of any show ever!
The show is getting better and better with the drama and starting to really care for the characters - all that with gut busting laughter!
Favorite lines:
Kelly: Kobe Bryant is soooo hot. He bought his wife that huge diamond ring…..He didn’t do it. Well…maybe he did.
Creed: Thanks, I’ve never owned a fridge.
Dwight: I don’t believe you. Continue.
May 12th, 2006 20:26
Greatest Finally ever.
If they never shot another episode again, I would be satisfied.
Every bit of music was perfect, every line was awesome.
Darryl was the best. If they added the extra 10 minutes so he could get on camera, then add 10 minutes every week.
Toby best line: gambling alcohol in our dangerous warehouse, it is a school night Hooter is catering, … is that enough, should I keep going
AIDS is not funny

Hey there—
Glad to have found this site. I’m a fan of the show, have missed a bunch of the episodes, but I got ‘Conflict Resolution’ and ‘Casino Night’ over iTunes. Buying ‘Casino Night’ was probably the best use of $1.99 ever.
Can anyone tell me what ‘Dink’n Flicka’ means?
How great is it that Kelly, Ryan, and Toby are actually writers for the show.
May 25th, 2006 12:10
The kiss was perhaps the worst thing to happen to the show. One of the best parts about this show is the “Will They? Won’t They?” aspect. Logically, they would date. But in a sitcom, as in past shows like Scrubs or Ed, they will fiddle in the kinda-dating realm, which ended up ruining both of those shows.
I hope they don’t take the romance angle too far. Also, Creed was vastly underrated in the final few episodes. My only hope is that they continue his angles.
May 25th, 2006 12:16
Andy, I think that this kiss is as far as it will go for a while. Even though Pam accepted it, it was very much Jim who did it. I think that Pam will react the same way after Jim told them that they went on a date up on the roof.
There are some turbulent times ahead.
May 25th, 2006 18:22
Ben S- i was wondering how many people (no offense to anyone but people who might not be “hip” to what black people say) would think that those phrases were real. dickin flicka, fleece it out, mach five, lol none of these things are real lol. thats why that part of this episode is so brillant. and no one does that handshake either lol.
June 3rd, 2006 12:30
i thought it was funny that michael want to sponsor the eight-years-retired “comic relief” (as he sincerely believes he is a comedian)….
and a few weeks after the episode airs…its announced:
comic relief is back for 2006!

June 17th, 2006 19:44
Was some dialogue cut?
OK, so our TiVo somehow deleted the big episode and my wife needed her fix, so I bought it at iTunes.
In the current watching (and rewatching of the kiss part, what a good husband I am
It really looks like right at the end Pam says three words that are not included in the audio and Jim says one back to her. Check it out… the audio track has Pam inhale to say whatever, then nothing as her mouth moves.
OK, we need lives.
Anyway, wonder what they cut??! Or will that be the moment they return to next season?
cheers,
K&L
August 1st, 2006 05:48
For what it’s worth, both Jenna and John have said in interviews that there’s no dialogue in the kiss scene After “the kiss.” That doesn’t mean their lips aren’t quivering bit or something.
October 27th, 2006 15:51
yeah, i’m really wondering what dink n flicka means! it’s been bothering me! so, what does it mean? By the way, the finale was amazing… I’m so happy that Jim told Pam he loves her and kissed her… gosh…
June 21st, 2007 21:06
wow, wow, wow. the season 3 finale is over and i’m still posting a comment. how sad. this was my favorite episode EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i bought it on iTunes, our stupid DVR deleted it!
that was so sad, but i think that there were a lot of jam hints in that whole season that we didn’t even know about, like how someone said earlier, the “kiss” cover band, the song scrantonicity played, following dreams, etc. congrats to the writers!
January 13th, 2008 15:08
what is “jam”?
