Mr. Brown (yes, that’s really his name) appeared in the episode, “Diversity Day” (episode 102), as a corporate mandated speaker from Diversity Today. Mr. Brown is called into the Office because of an incident, known as the “Chris Rock Routine.” During this incident, Michael recreated the famous “N****s vs. Black People” routine from Chris Rock’s 1996 HBO Special, Bring On the Pain. This resulted in a complaint, which resulted in Mr. Brown giving a presentation on Diversity in the workplace. Michael initially refuses to sign his mandated, “I have learned about diversity and sensitivity” waiver, until Mr. Brown points out that he is only there for Michael’s benefit. Michael then signs the form, Daffy Duck.

Diversity Today’s motto is HERO, honesty, empathy, respect and open-mindedness. “Is open-mindedness even a word?”
We love him because he appropriately put Michael in his place.

    Favorite Mr. Brown lines/moments include:

    * “Well it’s my name - it’s not a test” in response to Michael’s comments about his name

    * His skillful and oh-so-textbook-corporate handling of Michael in the beginning of the seminar (ie, asking his “permission” to run the Diversity Today session)

    * The patient look of bemused restraint on his face when Dwight is expounding on the definition of HERO

    * The not-so-patient look of exasperated restraint on his face when Michael can’t resist adding one final line to his Chris Rock impersonation (”whatchyou wanna cookie?”)

Thoughtful enough to make copies for everyone as not to embarass Michael.. if he only knew how often Michael embarasses himself..

For those of you who saw the episode, it was clear that “Mr. Brown” didn’t know a thing about diversity day. The real diversity really shined when Kelly FINALLY understood the meaning of diversity day.

Sure, I had to taunt her, and embarass her in front of the rest of the office: but now she finally gets it. She finally knew what it felt like to be a minority!

This has nothing to do with this character, but whenever I see this guy I think of Michael talking to the office and saing “Colored greens” and Stanley saying “they are called Collard Greens” and then Michael quips, “we do not called them Collared people…that is disprespectful.” HILLARIOUS!

My favorite part is when Michael is trying to speak in sync with him and fails.
