He gives Dwight a Western styled badge in the shape of a star. I think my favorite part of that scene is when Dwight salutes Tate and Michael, and Tate looks at them like, “what in the hell…”
Hank Tate– hanging out at DM until retirement. Not really invested in his job. The Stanley of security detail. Willing to pretend Dwight has authority. Must really like Michael to agree to this arrangement. Or else he’s really bored and is looking for a bit of humor. Probably realizes that with Dwight around, he’ll get to do even less work because Dwight will be over-zealous about security now. Hank can just kick-back and wait for retirement. Parallel to Stanley’s comment– its a run-out-the-clock situation.
In ‘The Fire’ when we see Michael running out of the building, you can see Tate sitting at his desk not worried at all about the fire. It makes the fact that Michael was running even funnier!! : )
I feel for this man. The only thing I can think about is that he is directly responsible for Dwight passing through security with his “Spud Gun”–it is a rifle that fires potatoes at 60 psi. If only this guy would have cared…
Dwight thinks office security has been very slack.
I’m pretty sure Dwight called him “Hank.”
“Hank, how many orange traffic cones do you have.”
“Two.”
“Oh….God.”
He doesn’t carry a gun, either.
He doesn’t get to carry a gun.
I thought his name was Hank?
I thought he said that too, but the name tag says “Tate” so I went with that.
Maybe Tate is a last name.
that man is funny, Hank Tate…
Probably the most realistic character on the show ever!

I just watched its defintely Hank Tate.
Does not approve of the use of the bow staff by security personnel.

His security skills inspired ID badges, according to Dwight.
