I Got Lost In The Excitement Of The Kissfession

As I was reading thru some of the entries on the “All Encompassing Haiku Contest“, I came across Brian’s that read:

Transfer? To Stamford?
Connecticut has no Pam
Who would torture Dwight?

In all the excitement in the confession and the kiss, I forgot that Jim still has a pending transfer to Stamford. He and Jan even talked about it a bit in Casino Night. I figure his kissfession (new word, patent pending) is one of two things.

1) He wanted to tell Pam about his feelings because even the slightest bit of interest from her would cause him to change his mind about the transfer.

or

2) He has decided that he’ll go, but would never forgive himself if he went without telling her and having a least one kiss with her. Going out with a bang.

What do you think?

Actually, the transfer was the first thing my boyfriend and I thought of and discussed, post-kissfession (AWESOME coined term… much better than Vaughniston. :) ) We theorized that Jim will stay if Pam decides to split from Roy, and that he’ll leave if there’s any amount of potential humiliation involved. That, or there will be some horrible humiliation, Pam won’t leave Roy, and the transfer will fall through for some reason…

Jim i gone, and will come back with Jan for visits.

She is grooming him to take over the Other Office that is worse then Scraton.(meeting where they out Pam and Michael relationship)

Then Just like the BBC show, they will Merge. Jim being the possible new boss OVER michael and Dwight

i think he just wanted her to know before he transfers. i got that impression from the line, “i just wanted you to know”, which seemed like he wasn’t expecting her to go with him, but rather he just wanted her to know for his own sake. that said, i think he will stay because pam’s reaction seemed receptive, given her comments to her mother on the phone. all in all, i bet he leaves for a time and pam convinces him to come back, possibly by dumping roy.

I don’t think he has decided to transfer. Jan says, “Have you given any more thought to the transfer.” In my opinion, that means he hasn’t decided definitely one way or the other.

Becky: Yes, she did say that, but she also told him he had better tell Scranton branch about it, which seems to me that the decision is already made.

Joseph: I agree, he did it to get it off his chest.

Guys aren’t honest with themselves in that situation. He’s had forever to tell her how he feels, but always chickened out (like with the note in the teapot). He meant to tell her he was leaving that night, but from the look in his eyes he saw how she looked that night and just blurted out what he really meant. In reality he just wanted her to tell him to stay. When she didn’t, he fell back to just wanting her to know.

Whether he transfers depends on what happened between Casino Night and June 10. Fans of the British show seem to have some insights about merging branches and Jim’s temporary absence. I don’t know much about that. I just think it’s not in keeping with the show for them to simply get together without a lot of funny, painful, awkward and weird stuff happening in between.

And I can’t imagine Jim as the boss. That’s a complete character overhaul for a guy without much motivation.

Trisha, Jan actually says, “Have you told anyone?” To me that just means have you bounced this off anyone…like a confidant.

Jim will give up the promotion after what happened on Casino Night. This will all be in vein though, because Pam will find out about Jim’s transfer business. Still torn between Jim and Roy she will be pushed back to Roy because as we learned from the boys and girls episode, she is not one for uncertainty. Roy, though unappreciative of Pam, is a stable thing, while Jim, with this tranfer, is not a sure thing in her eyes. Jim will be stuck in the office with the same job, and no Pam. I really hate to see this happen but in Scranton things usually don’t have happy endings

I think he just wanted to tell her how he felt before he leaves. I think he’ll transfer for the first few episodes and for some reason, he will decide to (or HAS to) come back. Pam will still be with Roy which makes for an awkward second season between the two.

I’m not familiar with the British version, but I don’t think Jim will leave, and if he does, it won’t be for too long. It’s obvious Pam has feelings for him even if she doesn’t actively persue them, and with that recipricated kiss, I don’t think he could bring himself to leave Pam for that long.

I think he just wanted to talk to her honestly before he leaves, which I think he has decided on by this point. He knows he’ll never get another chance to tell her, he knows he’ll regret it forever if he doesn’t, and he figures she’ll be okay with it because he’s about to leave.

I mean, she wouldn’t have let him kiss her like that a few weeks earlier. So it’s just sort of a closure thing for him.

That said, that doesn’t mean I think Jim will _actually_ leave. But he thinks he will. He’s too important on the show to leave. Also - he won’t be a boss. That just makes no sense. This is the guy who said he didn’t want to be promoted because then Dunder-Mifflin would be his career, and “If this was my career I’d probably throw myself in front of a train.” or something like that.

I think Jim decided to go to Stamford which made him confess to Pam. When he first confessed I felt he gave up the fight too soon, as if he knew it would end badly but had to tell Pam regardless of the outcome. Meeting her back in the office was a fluke but he may have over heard Pam talking to her mom and decided to press for one last stab at it.

I don’t want Jim to go higher in the company I mean, he has so much potential to do other things… after he gets w/Pam.

Becky: After Jan says that, though, she tells him he had better. Am I remembering this wrong? So even though it did seem like she was wondering if he had mentioned it like a converstional fact, she tells him he should tell them, which makes it seem like it is going to happen.

I’ve only recently been exposed to the show, but in watching both seasons this past week, here’s my take:

The flirtation between Pam and Jim is 80% of the charm of the show. For the charm to continue, the flirtation has to continue. That means P&J can never get together but Jim has to remain in the forefront of the show.

This situation has appeared in numerous other shows that lost their charm when the couple got together (Cheers, for example). Pam will have to spurn him inspite of her now-realized reciprocated feelings. The trite justification could be to try to force him to take the transfer to the much better job. I hope the writers find a more clever twist.

I also think that that Pam is more likely to advance her career than Jim. A new situation for Pam could mean a surce for new romantic rivals for Jim’s unrequited love. He will need a new rival, since Roy has now clearly been “bested”.
