Office Cast and Arrested Development

Saturday, July 1, 2006

A friend of mine named Alan is a big fan of The Office and Arrested Development. He sent me an email yesterday that was really fun to read. He told about how some of the members of The Office cast were also in Arrested Development. He was kind enough to give descriptions and screenshots of them all.

Darryl worked as a security guard at the studio lot where Tobias went to audition for the role of “Confidence Man”. At the gate he learned that the guard (Darryl) was auditioning for the same role. They wished each other luck.

Phyllis was a member of the Board for the Bluth Company, and was present during an important meeting when GOB interrupted with his “Tricks Around The Office”.

Lonny was called T-Bone, and was doing time for arson in prison, where he met George Bluth, Sr. When T-Bone got out, George hired him to burn down a storage shed that held incriminating evidence, then gave him a job at the banana stand.

Kevin worked at a gun shop, and sold Tobias a tranquilizer gun, which was later used to shoot his wife Lindsay (he thought she was a wolf).

I’ve never watched Arrested Development, but after seeing so many of our Office mates in the show (and with the encouragement of Alan), I am going to give it a shot. I grabbed all the episodes last night so maybe I’ll get started over the holiday weekend. (Heck, I have to watch something in this drought of The Office.)

You’ll be glad you did, as AD was one mind-boggingly good show.

  2. jessica says:

Arrested Development is absolutely amazingly hilarious. And it will be the perfect comedic thing to get you through the “drought.” :) happy watching!

  3. Kalon says:

I have to agree: Arrested Development is an amazing show with brilliant acting and genius writing. After watching the first few episodes, you will not be able to stop.

  4. Michael says:

Yes, I actually sent this website a message awhile ago talking about how so many office guys were in AD. My ranking of comedies goes 1. Arrested Development 2. The Office 3. Seinfeld

  5. Brian says:

Two TV-related goals this summer: go back and watch the UK Office (on the way from NetFlix) and now, Arrested Development.

  6. srah says:

Oh alas! If only you’d discovered it earlier it might still be on! Wonderful show!

  7. WYF says:

This is hilarious!!! My best friend is a huge AD fan while I’m a big The Office fan and we got each other to watch the other’s favourite show. We did the exact same thing as your friend, looking for AD/The Office links :)

  8. Johnny Boy says:

    Honestly? AD>Office. Yes, either Office.

And I love the Office. But AD was brilliance, and it’s a shame I didn’t discover it until the show was already dead.

  9. Trisha says:

Arrested Development was hilarious. And a scary, scary thing. It was so popular and talked-about for awhile, and then all of a sudden it was cancelled. I hope we don’t go through anything like that.

  10. Brian says:

That’s frightening Trish. But I think NBC is really behind the show financially, and there’s the whole myspace, youtube and of course the iTunes connections. They’d be throwing a lot away. Plus they’re tied to Carrell’s rising star, from a strictly mercenary perspective. The suits won’t let go of that easily.

  11. HB says:

Arrested Develpoment was absolutely brilliant.. you’ll love it!

    Enjoy!

p.s: I’m jelaous.. I whish I could discover a great show like that.

  12. Brian says:

Wow, this show really is wuite funny. I think that my favorite story line is the crush that George Michael has on his cousin. That kid is funny.

HB, Are you into Scrubs? that is a great show too.

  13. Meg says:

Hey, Brian. I’m laughing b/c AD, Scrubs, and the Office are my top 3 shows. Zach Braff also made a couple of cameos on AD–he was the director or producer of the “Girls with Low Self-Esteem” vids.

Also read in Entertaiment Weekly that Rainn Wilson had been a finalist for the part of Gob!

  14. Brian says:

Rainn would have been great in that part

  15. Meg says:

I know that he probably would have been, but I just loved Will Arnett’s Gob so much—he was just so deliciously idiotic–I have trouble seeing anyone else but him.

I think Will Arnett would have made a good Todd Packer…

  16. Justin S says:

I swore I just saw Jenna Fischer (Pam from The Office) at the very end of The Sword of Destiny from season 2. (Sitting with the FBI guys right after George Michael recreates Star Wars lightsaber boy again) She is not credited nor is it on her IMDB page… Can anyone confirm that this is her?
