Tidbit: Even More on Kevin’s Band

Soon after Casino Night aired, I wrote a little piece called “A Little More On Kevin’s Band“. In it, we learned a little more about the name of the band (Scrantonicity) and it’s ties to The Police.

Well, it turns out that it wasn’t originally supposed to be The Police at all.

I received an email from Angelo Middione. He was cast for the office as John E Taylor, bass player in Scrantonicity. Angelo mentions that he needs to be careful with what info he gives out. We obviously don’t blame him for that. But, he did feel comfortable giving us this awesome tidbit.

The original attempt
was Steve Miller but he was unwilling to work with NBC, so that was scratched.
Next was Genesis. When we taped that scene we played a Genesis song which also
had to be scratched do to more legal issues So, instead of re-taping the
video, NBC just edited the video, so our movements could not be matched up with the
Police song, which is why the video is so choppy and tightly edited. I hope this
helps with some aspects of that episode.

That’s a bummer that they had to edit the video so tightly. I would have liked to see more of Scrantonicity….and hopefully we will in future episodes.

(Oh boy, we eat these inside tips up. As always, our invitation to the cast is always there. We’d love to hear from anyone, even the Vodka Expert Man with the awesome sideburns.

You know, that makes sense. I didn’t quite understand why they weren’t playing a Steve Miller song if Kevin said that they were a Steve Miller tribute band. It’s too bad that they edited it, but i also hope to see more of Kevin’s band come Season 3.

Just some info for people who are not familiar with the tie in with The Police.
In 1983 the Police released the album “Synchronicity”.

Great album, has a few of their best songs, though interestingly, not Don’t Stand So Close to Me. I’d have pegged Kevin as more of a Zeppelin guy. Genesis would’ve blown my mind.

The only reason why I wasn’t totally surprised when they started playing a Police song in that episode was from Kevin’s blogs on myspace, he had a hilarious one about needing to know about new bands because they were looking to make a change (from Steve Miller). I love that Scrantonicity video, but Genesis would’ve been awesome. Can you imagine them doing “Invisible Touch”?

Well I’d like to say thanks to those who enjoyed the season Finale and those who enjoyed band as well, although there wasn’t much to see after the editing, it was a lot of fun to tape. It was also a blast to watch Brian, aka Kevin Malone play the drums, I was initially cast to play the drums, but when I got to the set they had changed it around, In regards to Sarah’s comment about “Invisible Touch”, that’s what we are playing to in the video, good job Sarah. There are lots of dynamics to taping a TV show and it’s not always mapped out to the “T” so things do change, causing a whole new set of problems to be addressed, but ultimately it all worked itself out and I think the cast and crew do a great job every week keeping us entertained. As I expressed to Brian the curator of this blog I don’t have the rights to fully discuss everything about the band so I will leave it at that, with hopes that the Mother Ship NBC will asked me to return for future episodes as John E. Taylor, which is a name I made up, should the need arise, Hello NBC are you listening ? I made a myspace profile in an attempt to stay attached to the band so if anyone feels the need to encourage this with the Mother Ship, please by all means. I would like to see if anyone can guess where I got the name John E. Taylor.
