Bummer, NBC Stole My Idea

I was so excited to see the new Office website on NBC. Just for kicks, I decided to step into the forums and see what was being written there. I was kind of bummed to see that just today they went live with a new section called, “Adventures With Dwight” where they are accepting photo’s of “Dwight’s Travels.”

They must have liked my new Schrute Travels category that I started a month and a half ago.

Well, I’ll be excited to see the pictures there anyhow. I’ve already left a note there about the contest for anyone who wants to submit the photos in both places. And at least we know that NBC reads the site so that’s a compliment. I hope they read all of the story ideas that were written. There were a ton of good ones.

“Dear NBC, Can I have a speaking part in The Office? Love, LITO”

That’s sweet they’re reading LITO, though a shout-out would have been nice.

Dude, that idea is such an old idea. How can you assume they got it from you? It has been so many times before with so many other shows that had action figures/toys/bobbleheads/etc. I doubt brass at NBC has even seen this site, let alone got any ideas from it.

Aaron, to quote my mother, “be sweet!”

hey dude. i agree with aaron. you are so dillusional sometimes. it’s just one in a million fansites and you are coming up with the same cliched ideas every fansite has. i did love when you thought the “supersized” idea was stolen from here as well. next you’ll be saying you invented the name microsoft office.

Aaron hit the nail on the head. Old idea and it’s dishonest for you to claim it.

I guarantee both the talent and the suits at NBC check in here and other fan sites. It would be dumb not to, especially for a show with such a heavy online bent to its marketing and fan base.

I agree it that it is an old idea for many fan sites but at the same time I bet they come over here to visit LITO.

“Aaron, to quote my mother, ‘be sweet!’”

It’s hard to when the heading is “Bummer, NBC Stole My Idea”.

Wow, I stepped away from the blog for the evening and had no idea I was getting insulted here. I think this is the biggest problem with blogs. There’s no way to know when the writer is being completely serious and when he is saying things tongue in cheek. I think I inaccurately gauged the community here and I apologize if it was taken to seriously.

Obviously I didn’t think I was the first person ever to have the idea of sending in pictures like this. That would be foolish. I was just surprised to see the official site do it for this show, as I’ve never seen NBC do it for another show. I think it will be fun to watch all the pictures come in. Their audience is certainly much larger.

matt and Aaron, I will refute one part of your comment though. I think that this site and 5 or six other Office fansites are closely watched by those at NBC. This show gained a lot of it’s beginning popularity from the internet. It used to be difficult for networks to see how their shows were received. Now, they have blogs and chat boards at no cost. I think they enjoy our compliments and our critiques.

Don’t worry Brian, I think most of us realize that this blog is for entertainment purposes only. Much like the show.

Another idea that may be fun to “steal” is to create a quiz to see which characters the readers are most like. One of the Family Guy sites does this. I wonder how many Dwights there would be?

    Brian,
Here’s a thought since some people don’t seem to have the sophistication to know when you’re kidding or not…maybe spell it out for them.

    Example Headline:

NBC Stole My Idea for Cast Interviews

    just add *tongue in cheek*

PS Your site is awesome and all true Office fans know for a fact (as documented by Jenna and Angela’s Myspace blogs) that this site, along with a few other great ones, are checked regularly by the network, the writers, and the stars!

I think matt and aaron (two names with double letters) are from the other fansites wanting a “westside story rumble” Someone call pony boy.

Those extra letters in your names.. Do they slow you down in life?

hey guys. matt again. i just watched last night’s conan with dwight. they brought out the bobble head too. those jerks stole your idea as well. the idea to show the bobble head.

seriously though, i love your claims for sarcasm now. i guess it’s possible that Aaron and i completely missed it, while the girl quoting her mom and the thespian making the great inquiry about our strange spellings, did “get it”.

but honestly, i do truly believe your claims of nbc connections. jay leno’s terrific monologue jokes don’t write themselves.

that enough sarcasm for you people?

Matt, bless your heart. I think I’ll close the comment section on this post so you can feel like you got the last word. I can’t have you insulting the other readers.

Feel free to visit the other 999,999 Office sites that you mentioned.
