I recently received an interesting email from LITO reader Clint. Here is part of it:
I am writing this time to introduce you to “The Office on NBC” Drinking Game. I created it with the help of two of my friends but I wanted to share it with you in case you or other LITO readers (of legal age of course) may find it interesting. After compiling my master VHS copies onto 2 commercial free 6 hour tapes, we were able to watch The Office on NBC contiuously ad infinitum and realized that there were a lot of running gags and other quirks that commanded a game be made of it. On top of the fact that I also like to drink and watch The Office on NBC (though not necessary) I figured other people may like to do the same. Lemme know if you are interested in getting a nice list going.
Attached to the email was a list that he has started. He calls this the “Beta List”:
- ONE drink if someone says questions before asking a question
- ONE drink if a Dundie is mentioned or seen (including title sequence)
- ONE drink if the Homer Simpson doll is in frame
- ONE drink for the theme song (just because it rocks!)
- ONE drink whn Michael makes a joke or a play on words with an employess name
- TWO drinks for Meredith’s alcohol traits
- TWO drinks for “that’s what she said”
- TWO drinks when the office is referred to as “The Orifice”
- TWO drinks if Michael makes an INACCURATE reference
- THREE drinks if Michael makes and ACCURATE reference
- THREE drinks for a Saturday Night Live reference
- THREE drinks for Todd Packer reference__TWO for a phone call___ONE for a
mention - FOUR drinks when we see Michael & Jan kissing (we have three total
(incl.flashback,but more may come)
Unlike Meredith, I’m not a drinker at all. But, I will totally play along with a bag full of licorice or something.
So, here’s what we need to do. Everyone leave their ideas for this game in the comments. What rules should be added? We’ll take all the suggestions and have Clint and his buddies put together the 15 or 20 official rules.
What a fun idea! Here are a few more suggestions:
ONE drink every time Pam says “Dunder Mifflin this is Pam”
TWO drinks every time there’s a meeting in the conference room
TWO drinks everytime Chili’s is mentioned
ONE drink for every mention of the party planning committee
ONE drink anytime Dwight’s bobbleheads are in a shot, TWO if just the word “bobblehead” is said, and THREE drinks for when Pam calls him “Bobblehead Joe”
and I would suggest taking a drink everytime there’s a talking head segment, but you’d probably be passed out on the floor before a single episode was over!
how bout including every time Jim pulls a prank on Dwight?
Two drinks everytime Creed is seen stealing something.
One drink everytime Kevin does his special smile.
One drink for “Bob Vance from Vance Refrigeration.”
One drink everytime Dwight makes a Lord of the Rings reference.
Two drinks whenever Dwight mentions his beet farm.
One drink when Roy hurts Pam’s feelings.
Two drinks when Jim is viewed eating a Ham and Cheese sandwich.
Two drinks when Stanley says “I do not think that is funny.”
Three drinks when Oscar’s homosexuality is revealed in some fashion.
…. okay, I’m getting carried away.
okay one more:
two drinks whenever Michael makes an awkward racial comment around Darryl.
one drink whenever Jim is shown at reception talking to Pam.
two drinks every time Michael makes an inappropriate gay remark (Try not to be too GAY out on the court!)
one drink for every time Jim gives the camera that look he has.
two drinks every time the characters address the camera crew
I am so surprised this hasn’t been mentioned yet…
Two drinks every time Michael says “That is what she said”
Five drinks every time that Stanley smiles.
Two drinks every time that Michael references Money. (Ipod, condo, etc)
One drink every time a phone rings.
One drink when we hear Jan or someone from corporate on the phone.
One drink every time Michael hits on a woman.
One drink every time Angela has her hands crossed.
One drink for every hint of Dwight and Angela’s secret affair.
One drink every time Dwight gives relationship/sex advice.
Three drinks when a never-before-seen person appears in the office.
Two drinks for a scene outside of the office (perhaps including the warehouse, parking lot).
Lookin’ good everyone! BTW Dav-O, “that’s what she said is on my beta list but isn’t just for michael since we’ve seen dwight and jim both saying the line at least once thus far.
and to rebecca I had the Jim looking into camera on my original list but I deleted it b/c I didn’t know how to word it right.
Thanks again everyone I will add a lot of these though not all to the second version of the list. I will post back shortly.
Dinkin’ Flicka!
- Clint
I second the drink for every “Dunder Mifflin, this is Pam.”
zero drinks for when Jim and Pam kiss, because not even a “second drink” buzz from Chili’s could improve on a JAM kiss.
One drink when Phyllis cries,
Three drinks when Angela cries,
One drink when Michael says “shut it”
One drink when Michael says “I don’t know about that”
1/2 a drink for every time micheal hurts someone unintentionally
2 drinks for every dwangela moment
1 drink for everytime micheal makes a move on ryan…
I know this is off topic, but thanks to one and all for the Arrested Development recommendation. I watched Seasons 1 & 2 and am anxiously awaiting seasons 3 release. I am now finishing up the BBC version of The Office, very amusing also.
I still can’t wait for September.
2 drinks every time Ryan has that “What the hell am I doing in this job?” look on his face.
2 drinks every time Jim tries to ignore/avoid RAM interactions.
1 drink every time Jim does something to annoy Dwight. (haha, on second thought, you might get trashed too quickly)
Another perfect one I didn’t think of before:
Drink one drink for every drink (or mention of drinking) that Meredith takes.
One drink every time Michael requests Ryan do something for him.
One drink every time Dwight mentions his family/family history.
One drink every time downsizing is mentioned.
I am happy to report that I dutifully played along with last night’s airing of “The Carpet.”
I tried as best as I could to keep up with all of the rules that had been submitted.
I’ve gotta say, the Todd Packer references started hurting after a while!
For the record, “one drink” is equal to 1 oz. I use a 2 oz. shot glass with a line drawn at 1 oz. so that I keep spillage to a minimum.
At the end of the episode, I had consumed 32 oz. Not bad for a 20-minute episode!
Hi -
I compiled people’s ideas and combined them with my own.
The Office Drinking Game – http://www.projectsunset.com
The show is awesome.
This is off topic…
This is directed at Collin. So you’re telling me that you drank 32 shots in a 20 minute period?
My friend, you’d be dead.
Jill–
if you had a drink everytime a phone rang, you probably would be drunk within the first few minutes and dead by the end of the show
2 drinks whenever Dwight mentions that he is the assistant regional manager
1 drink whenever someone corrects him with “to the”
