Stanley Shows His Colors In The New Webisode

NBC has posted the newest webisode. (This one is #4 if you’re counting.) This time they interview Stanley and he’s quite funny.

My laugh out loud moment was Kevin looking into the camera serious and taunting, “The joke’s on you, Angela.”

The webisode is here…and it seems to work just fine this time.

(On a side note, that FedEx commercial that plays before the webisode is great. “Jerome, I need you to continue talking a big game and then doing nothing.” “Let’s do it.”)

Maybe it’s because he’s never spoken much, but Stanley seems out of character here. I liked Kevin’s line that sounded like Joe Dirt: “Angela gets all sarcastic and what not”.

Yeah, a lot of the interviewed people have seemed out of character. Maybe they don’t get to be themselves during the normal workday, because the place is restrictive or they’re just too busy hating life.

Also, maybe Creed took the money. He does like to steal.

I liked this one better than last week’s, but it was still a little strange. Stanley is still one of my favorite chracters though; but he seemed a bit sociopathic in this one.

I wonder if that Prince of Tides thing was a reference to Oscar’s sexuality. That he [and his friends] really LIKE the movie [because of Ms. Streisand] but he doesn’t want to blow his cover.

This one wasn’t great. I think there’s a reason the show usually focuses on Pam, Michael, Jim, Dwight and Ryan. They’re just better characters.

I thought stanley came off very suspicious in this one…Also, I figured Kevin actually probably was a genius, I’m not sure why.

    Still waiting for dwight…

And in an effort to win the earliest entry award, I submit these haikus:

    Webisodes: Not fun.
    Where’s Michael being a jerk?
    I want the show back

    Who stole three thousand?
    Oscar says it’s not funny.
    He’s right - it isn’t.

    Jim, pam, dwight, michael -
    All on summer vacation.
    We’re left with the rest.

I agree with Ben, that was NOT Stanley. The Webisode with Phylis was good.

Couple of late comments about your comments:

RSL: glad you caught the joke about the Prince of Tides thing…sort of. :)

DwightK: Kevin isn’t a genius. A score of 140 is needed to be a genius. You’re average intelligence until 109. So the joke there was that he THINKS he’s a genius cause 100 must be really high!

Also, I agree with the general sentiment here. The webisodes have been marginal at best. The first and second ones were alright.

Meredith’s was terrible. She seemed way too contrived.

Stanley’s was a little better but not because of Stanley’s character. He seemed way too negative towards Dunder Mifflin. During the seasons he was disinterested in everyone most the time, but only because he was working hard. He just wants to feed his family. I always thought that he found his coworkers somewhat stupid, not necessarily the company.

    Kevin is doing great though.

I agree, Kevin is carrying these webisodes. I think expectations are a little high for these things, but I also think NBC was shortsighted in trying to put too little into something and hoping to score big. They got a lot of good PR early on for the whole online marketing angle. But give the cast, writers and crew a budget and a little time next time. I think they really tried to get by on the cheap.

I agree with you there. They should have done it well, or not at all.
