Dunder-Mifflin In The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Jeremy and Julie (no relation) sent me in a note pointing to an article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. It is about Dunder-Mifflin and it’s ties to Scranton. A little from the article:

Instead of getting its collective back up, Scranton is embracing the Emmy-winning NBC show, laughing along with it. Mayor Chris Doherty has a Dunder Mifflin banner flying outside of City Hall, and Farley’s restaurant is concocting a Michael Scott burger, slathered in cheese.

After all, residents of the former coal town two hours west of New York City have heard much worse. When George Burns was asked if he was afraid to die, Burns replied, “No, I already died in Scranton.”

Like the show’s creator, Scranton leaders say the comedy doesn’t mock this city of 80,000. Instead they say it jabs dysfunctional office life in Anywhere, America.

I wonder if the Mayor gets tired of answering questions about The Office.

The main reason I started watching “The Office” is because I grew up in the Scranton area, and it was fun to catch the local references. Once I tuned in, it became obvious to me that this show was something special. I began to search the ‘net for local references I may have missed, and that led me to the “Scranton Insider,” courtesy of LITO. It’s been a “win-win” situation.
