TV.Com Interview With Melora Hardin (Jan)
This interview with Melora is a little old, but it brings up a point that many of us have wondered. Why hasn’t Michael been fired?
TVGuide.com: As you approach this role as an actress, in your mind, why does Jan put up with Michael? I mean, why doesn’t she just fire this guy already?
Melora Hardin: Right, exactly! [Laughs] I think that Jan is a pretty complex character in the sense that she has all these defense mechanisms that she has put up; she is very corporate, and she’s really learned how to survive in a man’s world, so she’s got this very tough exterior. But inside, I describe her as having a “soft caramel center.” [Laughs] Ultimately, I think that Michael is one of the very few people in her life who sees all those walls and doesn’t get scared and intimated and backs off. Instead, he comes barreling in like a bull in a china shop. And there’s something for Jan that’s compelling about that. Who doesn’t want to be wanted? Even though he’s inappropriate and rude and obnoxious and not at all at her level and not right for her in any way, there’s something [there] that’s kind of unbearably, chemically attractive to her. She gives him a lot of slack because of that, even though she seems like she’s not giving him a lot of slack.
Later on Melora goes on to say that she is “micromanaging Michael’s life kind of out of the jealousy and hurt of him choosing Carol over Jan.”
Now, I know that she is just the actor that plays Jan and that Jan is just a character, but it is interesting to see her point of view on it. You can read the interview here.
The interview also points to Melora’s personal site, Melora.com. It has a little about her music and other things she is interested in. ANd the pictures of her would probably make Michael Scott flip. (And might make your boss flip if he thinks it’s something else so be careful.)

I’ll dare to say that it feels more weird watching that than it did the first time I saw how Angela and Kevin acted in real life. Angela is a bundle of energy and Kevin doesn’t talk slow and stupid.

Frankly, as evidenced by the ending of Pretzel Day, I think the other reason Jan doesn’t fire Michael (and the reason I’m sure he’ll be retained at the merge) is that he *produces*.Michael may spend half the day impersonating Fat Albert, but he also gets the sale.

Does anyone else remember her as the girl who wanted Ross to talk dirty to her in the first season of Friends? Remember…Ross goes to Joey for advice and Chandler walks in on him practicing…and then for some reason I remember Marcell the monkey hanging on to her hair and her screaming! The many faces of Melora…Hmmm.

She was on this disney movie with Kirsten Dunst called the “Tower of Terror.” I saw it and and I had no idea she was in that movie! She sings in it too.

If you want to see more of her singing check out the Disney movie The Rocketeer. She sings pretty and she’s gorgeous in that movie.
