iTunes, Bill Maher, and Las Vegas

Sunday, November 12, 2006

Here are three notes that I found interesting enough to share.

1) If you don’t like to watch the blurry and commercial filled producer’s cut of Branch Closing online, iTunes is offering an extended version this week. Most episodes of The Office on iTunes are about 22 minutes long but this week it is 30 minutes long. It’s still the same price and you can buy it here.

2) Yesterday I mentioned that Rainn Wilson (Dwight) would be on Real Time WIth Bill Maher. Well, he was indeed on there. But I have to admit, I didn’t watch it. With the nasty way that the elections happened here in Nevada, I have to take a couple week break before I start following politics again. If you want to watch it, it is on multiple parts on Youtube. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. (Thanks to tanster for tracking down the links.)

3) Speaking of Las Vegas and Nevada, LITO reader Brian sent in an email on Friday:

I was just watching NBC’s Las Vegas. I swear they just mentioned Dunder Mifflin.
They said something about Dunder Mifflin booked another ballroom. Maybe I’m
hearing things.

Now usually my wife and I will watch Las Vegas on Friday nights, but this last friday was the opening night for the UNLV basketball season and we are season ticket holding fans. (Go Rebels!) But I finally had the chance to grab Las Vegas online and indeed it is there. I grabbed the audio to share with you:

It doesn’t exactly jive that the company is having to shut down a branch but they can still have conventions in Vegas, but I won’t read that much into it. It was fun to see a little cross promotion of the shows. And, it was really fun to picture what Michael Scott would be like in Las Vegas. He would be the life of the place. Meredith would be a real mess. Angela wouldn’t leave her room. And I think that Dwight would lose a lot of money gambling since he would assume that he could outsmart the system.

I heard that Dunder Mifflin reference in Las Vegas, I had to rewind it to hear it again because it was so random.

    2 things…

    1) Thanks for clearing up the “Dunder Mifflin” reference. My mom and I heard it and just looked at each other. She was like, “Is that a real company?” I told her I didn’t think so, but then again so many things in that show are I began to doubt myself. (Example: Ocsar, Creed, Phyllis, and Angela’s names, Kelly’s parents, Poor Richard’s, the other restaurants…)

    2) I caught a glimpse of Rainn on HBO last night; I guess they were re-running the show. Unfortunately I didn’t get to hear him do much of anything but laugh because I caught the part where Bill goes off on an extremely liberal, “news” reporting, satirical tangent. Being slightly on the more conservative side I had to change it, but I will say Rainn looks quite different with a scruffy half-beard and no glasses. There’s no disguising the nerd look though. ;)
