Staples Shredder and Dunder Mifflin

Monday, November 13, 2006

Well, Staples must be an official sponsor of The Office now. Michael made a deal with Hammermil, which used to be “exclusive with Staples.” Josh is leaving Dunder Mifflin for Staples. And now, LITO has some info from the “company’s intranet portal” that a reader sent in which reads that the Staples MailMate Shredder will have a big part in this week’s episode. If you want to read the whole PDF, you can download it here. But, here are the highlights:

Yup, the tabloids were right this time. Staples MailMateTM will indeed debut on
NBC’s hit series, The Office. Although the script is top secret, we can reveal that
some serious shredding will take place. Everything else, well, you’ll just have to
watch for yourself. It promises to be a ripping good time.

According to Staples of Framingham, its new $69.99 MailMate junk-mail shredder
has been cast in a supporting role in the Nov. 16 episode of the NBC sitcom “The
Office,” a centerpiece of the network’s Thursday night lineup and one of the most
popular shows that consumers download from Apple Computer’s iTunes store.

“The Office” cameo is no mere product placement, said Staples vice president Todd
Peters; the Staples MailMate, which is billed as a defense weapon against identity
theft, has been “integrated into the story line.”

As digital video recorders such as TiVo gain popularity, many television viewers have
become adept at skipping commercials.

That’s a virtue of having the MailMate woven into the plot of an episode of “The
Office.”

“This TiVo-proofs our advertising,” Peters said.

Well, it seems that Staples it happy to get around the Devil named Tivo.

We’ve already seen shredders twice in The Office. Dwight uses one while Jim is trying to make a sale on the phone. Also, Pam befriends Meredith’s hell child by showing him how she gets to shred things. The question for LITO readers is, “What are some creative ways that the shredder can be worked into this week’s episode?”

Well, the obvious scenario is that several Stamford employees will be let go, which means plenty of old documents to shred.

    But that’s no fun.

Maybe Jim shreds any paper memories of Pam?
Maybe Dwight shreds all of his business cards saying that he is the A.R.M. (since it’s now Jim).
Maybe Michael accidentally shreds something very important.
Maybe Creed puts vegetables in the shredder to help make his soup.
Maybe Kevin is playing with the shredder and his tie gets caught.

    Who knows!

Creed could use a Shredder to de-seed his “Northern Lights, Canibus.”

  3. Brian Stucki says:

Maybe Ryan finally decides that he needs to break up with Kelly and Kelly is bent on making it a public break up so she brings in all notes and letters from Ryan and shreds them for all to see.

  4. Amy P. says:

I saw a commercial for this shredder. I want it, too bad it costs $70.

Can’t wait to see this week’s episode, as usual.

I’ve re-watched “Branch Closing” about five times.

  5. Post-it Thief says:

Maybe Jim accidently gets his tie caught in it and is plunging to his shredder death when Pam hits the stop button just in time to save him! She then realizes how much they need each other and they walk off into the florescent (sp?) light sunset.

Highly unlikely, but I’d still like to see it nonetheless. :)

Michael sticks his finger in it just to see what it will do.

It’ll be like “The Injury Pt. II”

  7. DwightK says:

There’s another shredder in the show – Dwight (I think) shreds a credit card during the opening theme.

Maybe a lot of Stanford documents will need to be destroyed?

Or maybe all the scripts for the office that still had Jim in Stanford, seeing as how the writers have neatly brought things back to how they were.
