No New Office This Week

Sunday, December 3, 2006

Just in case you haven’t heard the news, there will be no new episode of The Office this week. The next episode will be on December 14th and it will be the one hour Christmas episode.

In a special one hour Christmas episode, Michael sends out an inappropriate Christmas Card which lands him in hot water with his girlfriend Carol. Meanwhile tensions mount on the party planning committee between Angela, Pam and Karen. The resulting tension leave the office with two competing Christmas parties.

I just don’t get why it’s done like this. NBC finally has an Emmy Award winning comedy again and it’s only showing up every other week. At least we’ll have a one hour “My Name Is Earl” and another episode of “Scrubs” this Thursday.

I guess because they don’t want to knock scrubs and 30 rock off especially since they were just moved there last week (Scrubs at least). It’s not the worst thing though. At least we’ll get the last episode of the first half of the office later than normal. Also i would’ve figured that Michael and Carol were over considering she rejected his marrage proposal.

  2. Adam says:

Brian, are you a fan of Earl and/or Scrubs as well?

I watch Earl only because it comes on before the office. It’s worth watching, not worth tivoing (IMO).

From what I’ve seen Scrubs is pretty funny too, it just never really caught on with me.

  3. Michael says:

Earl’s good enough, but I just don’t have the time to watch all three comedies. I watched scrubs in its 1st and 2nd season then forgot about it, but now that its on right after the office its convienient for me to watch, so I’m really glad about that. Although I heard that this is the last season because Zack Braff is moving on..? Does anyone else know anyting about that?

  4. Laurie says:

If I can handle the seven-month 24 hiatus (barely,) I can handle an extra week between new episodes of The Office. And it’ll be a whole hour, which will be bliss, AND it’ll air a little closer to Christmas than a lot of very special Christmas shows I could mention.

  5. Laurie says:

As I understand it, Michael, Zach Braff’s comments were taken out of context. While no one is saying that he will definitely be back next season (assuming there will be a next season,) it sounds like he’s leaving the door open. Might depend on how contract negotiations go.

I actually think they could pretty seamlessly make Turk the lead. I’d almost like to see that happen.

I always thought it would be funny to have an Earl/Office crossover. 2 shows, one hour, one storyline. I dont know, maybe earl screwed up meridith’s life in the past and now wants to fix it. I think it would be interesting to see the office characters filmed in earl style and then earl and randy mixed in on the office “documentary”.

I think it could work, AND increase the viewer base for both shows.

I finally like the entire Thursday lineup for the first time in a long long time.
    30 Rock is well done.

  8. Janie says:

I haven’t watched 30 Rock yet, but Jenna Fischer is always raving about it in her blogs. I had never watched Scrubs, but caught the season premier the other night and laughed my butt off. I don’t even know the plot, but the NSYNC ringtone part was hilarious to me.

Earl is another story…I have tried to watch that on at least 3 or 4 occasions and it’s just too dumb for me. When I tell a few of my friends this they say, “You say Earl is stupid but you watch The Office??”

My friends…The Office is genius. :)

Adam, I’m kind of inthe same boat as you with Earl. I enjoy it because it’s there, but I don’t download episodes of it or anything.

I am a bid fan of Scrubs though. I have all the season. It was my “must watch” comedy until The Office came on.

  10. Erik says:

I think this is only the 2nd or 3rd week off they have had since they started the new season. That’s not so bad. They did show what 7 in a row straight?

  11. Rock says:

It’s not too hard to figure out that you can’t have a new episode every week! Other shows do this all of the time, I don’t see what the whining is about here. Of course it would be nice, but labor costs and salaries would be outrageous. Think of it this way. The season starts in mid-September. It runs til mid-May. That’s 8 months, and about 32 weeks. Most series produce around 24 episodes a season. That leaves 8 weeks outside of the summer where you get repeats. I think we’ve been lucky to this point not to have had more repeats.

  12. Bob says:

I like Jay’s idea about a crossover “Earl/Office” show. It’s fun to kick that idea around about Meredith hooking up with Earl. I can see Angela scowling at Randy as he childishly touches the copier machine.

  13. Mindy says:

I will be watching past episodes of the office that i’ve saved on my TIVO this week…would love to see a full hour of the office…Mindy

  14. Mindy says:

This is also off-topic but I know the cast has a list of songs on itunes (playlists)…can anyone give me a full or partial list of songs that have been used in in the Office episodes? I wanted to make a playlist of Office songs to put on my ipod and I’ve downloaded a few already including “Closer to Fine” (TUNA!)…

I need to download “Rainbow Connection” now…LOL

  15. Brian Stucki says:

Mindy, we had a post about this a few months back.

    http://www.lifeintheoffice.com/2006/10/26/songs-played-on-the-office/

You should find it all there.

  16. grover says:

Well it’s normal though, right? All TV shows show repeats, especially between sweeps months.

  17. Mindy says:

Thanks Brian! I’ll check the link out. Mindy
