I think that I am just about ready to announce that “The Fight”ais my favorite Office episode of all time. There are just so many great things in that episode. (Dwight’s desk move, the actual fight, prank calls to Ryan, “I don’t want to work, I just want to bang on this mug all day”, sucker punch from Dwight, 14 year-old girls, etc.) I can’t wait to do the audio clips for the episode.
Well, I was watching that episode this morning and a line from Michael jumped out at me:
We’re all best friends . I love everybody here. But sometimes your best friends start coming into work late. And start having dentist appointments that aren’t dentist appointments, and that is when it is nice to let them know that you could beat them up.
I laughed when I heard him say that because we now know Dwight’s little escapade with Dr. Crentist, DDS.
But this got me wondering. Can you think of any foreshadowing in any of the other episodes?
Gah, that’s such a hard question.
When Roy joined in the “Who would you do?” game, he picked Angela, and ever since then Angela has always been privy to Roy.
I don’t know if you can consider that foreshadowing though! Good question.
Well, the obvious one is last season’s Halloween episode. Oscar was dressed in women’s clothing and Michael implies that Oscar is gay… which we didn’t find out was true until “The Secret.”
I can vouch for Dwight Kurt Schrute.
6th deleted scene up!
yeah i sometimes notice that foreshadowing too. i am sure there are a few times with the stamford/downsizing stuff.
Well in the very first episode we see dwight has to keep his telephone handset in the drawer. not until conflict resolution did we actually find out that was because Jim put nickels in the handset.
I have recognized lots of foreshadowing; of course the Oscar halloween costume, and Michael’s remark:
Michael: (looking at Oscar) “Oh, look at you. Showin’ your colors. I bet you wish you wore a dress everyday.”
Oscar: “What are you implying?”
Unfortunately I can’t pinpoint anything else specific at this moment. I just remember at one point I was re-watching the episode where Dwight “bobbles” all the bobble heads on his desk (which one is that by the way?) and I thought holy cow these guys are writing geniuses. Some comment made in that episode had just recently surfaced in one of the recent season 3 episodes. I found myself wondering, do they really write this far in advance or do they think, “hey- remember that one comment so-and-so made back in season 2…let’s expound on that.” Either way it’s awesome. It makes you feel dumb for not noticing it, even though there’s no way you would be able to.
Now if I could only remember which incident triggered these thoughts.
Heidi, that is a great one.
Janie, I can’t wait to hear yours.
