In Case You Want To Rob Dunder Mifflin

The thing I love about the LITO readers is that when we have no new Office episode, we all get creative.

LITO reader Mark spent a “rainy Saturday weekend” on a floorplan project. He did a nice layout of the Dunder Mifflin Scranton Branch. Right now it is in Pre-Merger layout, but it’s still pretty impressive.

There may be some inaccuracies, but overall I think this is well done. I’m not sure if Marco plans to keep this floorplan up-to-date, but feel free to KINDLY leave any update notes in the comments. Anyone know what is to the right of the conference room?

You can see the large image here.

That’s really awesome. I’m wondering what is in the top right corner. He drew it with chairs and whatnot, as if he’s seen it before. Does anyone remember this room?

And I guess I never realized that Toby and Kelly were so cut off from everyone. I always thought they were in the same room as everyone else, just in a corner we rarely saw.

    Crazy.

  2. Brian Stucki says:

Adam, that top right corner is where the vending machines are and where the gang hears about Martin’s stint in Prison.

BTW, to the right of the Men’s bathroom is the women’s bathroom, but I don’t think Marco knows the layout in there because I don’t think we’ve ever seen it.

  3. Adam says:

Ahhhhhh. So what is that like a second lunch room? And I think the only shot we have of the women’s bathroom is Phyllis pushing Dwight out after he tries to see what was written about Michael!

  4. Marco Garbelini says:

That’s right, that in the top right corner is the break room. I only payed attention to it after rewatching everything with the office layout in my mind.

I’ll update that small corridor just by the break room with the data I got from the virtual tour Brian posted a few days ago.

  5. Chris B. says:

Did you notice Dwights desk in the mens bathroom? Priceless.

    “Wash your hands Kevin!”

  6. Andrew A. says:

To the right of the conference room is the where house isn’t it? That’s the door that they went through to go down to the where house on that one episode. The one where Michael trashes the whole where house and then leaves and tells them to clean it up! Classic. And of course, Dwight stops mid-way down the stairs and says the comment about the Other on Lost. All good stuff!

  7. Haven says:

That’s so awesome! I’ve always wondered what the floor plan is actually like.. I figured Toby and Kelly had to be on the other side of the break room, but I was never really sure. Thanks so much to the guy who made this :)

  8. Evan says:

wow, someone has way too much time on their hands….

  9. dee says:

This is great. It reminds me of that Star Trek spoof movie, “Galaxy Quest,” when the fans drew up blueprints of the ship from watching the show.

Hooray for all things cult-related to The Office!

  10. DwightK says:

What is a “rainy Saturday weekend” exactly?

  11. dwight k poop says:

I’m glad someone did it, because I almost the need to do it this week, too. Isn’t there a storage closet? Remember when Jim kept putting post-its on Dwight’s back? Was that just a wall of supplies or a room?

  12. Marco Garbelini says:

    @DwightK
    I had a nasty hangover.

    @dwight k poop
They were browsing the shelves just behind Stanley. (How do I know this stuff????)

  13. Ben says:

when will we see an updated version?

  14. alex says:

wow, brilliant. i also didn’t realize toby and kelly had their own “room” so to speak. although i guess i never really thought about it. kelly kept apart from everyone else: coincidence or planned? heh heh. that makes me think … they should have a flashback episode which shows the first day(s) of michael as boss, etc. i think it’d be neat

  15. kevin says:

Excellent! I was thinking about doing this a while back myself, but it would never have turned out half this nice.

  16. luke says:

What a coincidence!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just spent two hours last Friday recalling all the episodes and drawing up a map (it turned out almost identical to this one!). Also, I was wondering the exact same thing about that area by the conference room. 1. It’s not the warehouse, because in Boys and Girls, when they are going down there they go out the main door. And when Jim is about to back down when Pam goes over to him and says the women watched a movie about their changing bodies, Jim was headed away from that area. 2. At the way beginning of Grief Counseling when Michael pretends like he’s walking down steps behind the stacked-up paper boxes, he comes out of that doorway with the last box. Therefore, my guess is that they store extra paper in there. Nobody knows for sure because they have never showed it in an episode. Since it’s just a closed stage that the show is filmed in, there might not be anything there in real life. Also, I think the warehouse is filmed in it’s own stage, so in real life it isn’t even in the office.

  17. luke says:

there is an exit sign above a door near Toby and Kelly. If you take the office virtual tour on nbc.com and you go in the vending machine room and zoom in all the way, you can look out the door opposite the vending machines and get a very, very, very small glimpse of what’s inside that place

  18. luke says:

although the tour shows the warehouse over by Meredith, that is definitely not true, just read the post before my last one. However, there is an exit sign over that door.

  19. Charlie says:

Just putting this out there…In “Conflict Resolution” there was a comment from Creed about how he’s “tired of facing the red head”, meaning Meredith…so wouldn’t he be facing her?

  20. Christina says:

Does anyone know who Margery is over by Toby and Kelly?? That name does not ring a bell…

  21. Dannielle says:

    this is so cool!
I never realized how many break rooms there!
and how cut off kelly is.
    poor kelly!
so what is that big empty room to the right of the conference room?

  22. Willie says:

There was an unnamed, unnkown woman in the background of episode 1. She was a worker, so I would guess that’s her. There was also an unknown guy.

  23. me says:

first off.. the office is not shot on a closed stage.. its in the real building.. you can even go on google maps and see the thing with people trailers and stuff around it… and the ??? room has been show in the episode where jims secret about his crush on pam is revealed. its a store room

  24. Leaf in the Wind says:

Alright, that giant room is obviously not the warehouse. Think about it. The garage door to the warehouse comes out on the right side of the building when you’re entering the parking lot. Meaning, using this layout, the warehouse would have to be on the far left of the layout. I think that large room may be some sort of storage area, and there’s no reason to see any of it on the show.

  25. NL says:

Very nice work Marl. We do see the inside of the women’s restroom in season 3 episode 21, Women’s Appreciation. Michael takes the girls out and the guys follow Kevin into the ladies room to find sofas and a much nicer place than the men’s room. We also discover that Creed is a regular in the ladies room.

  26. Paul says:

But just for number 2, NL.

  27. Dave Ward says:

Many times we’ve seen that the warehouse has a forklift and an area which opens onto the street where trucks back directly up to the building. The forklift is used to load pallets of paper onto trucks. The warehouse is clearly on ground-level for those trucks to load and unload shipments.

The offices, however, are very often clearly shown to be *not* on the ground floor. People are regularly rushing over to the windows to look down into events happening in the parking lot. Examples: Michael walks Andy out to tell him Dwight & Angela have been fooling around; Dwight and Andy’s duel; Michael arriving late after he’s actually left the company but forgotten.

I’m not exactly sure what story the offices are on (from the perspectives I’m guessing 3rd floor). But clearly the warehouse is quite spacious, and is on the ground floor, while the offices are at least a story above that.

  28. Victor says:

Could you maybe make it bigger? (That’s what she said)
