John The Prop Guy On…Well…Everything
Since there was not a new episode this week, John The Prop Guy wrote a blog post about everything that goes on behind the scenes. It is really, really interesting.
Our utility, Preston who keeps the endless battery operated devices all working is also in charge of wiring the actors. This gets to be dicey because when you wire a female because you have to get pretty personal. It is a rare sound guy that doesn’t creep out an actress when he has his hand down her shirt, sends a wire down her leg, and straps a battery pack to their thigh. And believe me they will complain. Preston does it with class and discretion. No, you can’t have his job.
There is a ton more information in the post and it has a tease of an ending.
As for “The Office,” I already know the plots we’ll be coming back to and they’re pretty crazy. We’re three episodes ahead right now, and there is enough craziness and stuff you never could imagine for ten blogs. Enjoy “The Return” next week, if that’s still the title, and the two episodes after that where there’s big, big, changes!

That’s really interesting to learn that the actors are all wired, with battery packs strapped to their thighs. I guess that’s why Meredith has only ever taken off her blouse at the office.

It’s not just the actors, the characters are wired too, since they’re in a “documentary”–remember in The Injury, when Michael had to unstrap his mic pack in the hospital? So I guess they wouldn’t really have to conceal the wiring, they just do anyway.
