When did The Office turn into the OC?
February 22nd, 2007 21:05
I don’t care…I LOVED this episode.
JAN was AWESOME!!!
I could’ve just watched Michael and Jan all night and been content.
New Pam is refreshing. Finally.
Roy was a bit overboard to say it politely. But I guess that’s what they were going for.
Poor Toby.
and JAN!!! “Why is this so hard for me? That’s what she said!” HAHAHA
February 22nd, 2007 23:09
Yes very funny episode but Pam and Jim needs to get going soon… It MUST!!!
PLus what was going on with Karen and Jim the whole night I did not understand
February 22nd, 2007 23:11
I’m scared for Jim.
Did anyone else think they overdid Dwight tonight? You’re into the house, we get it. For the first time I didn’t feel satisfied (not what she said
)
February 22nd, 2007 23:33
Loved it!
Pitiful Toby, insane Roy, honest for once in her life Pam, Dwight being Dwight…
Can’t wait to see what Jimbo does when Roy comes to kill him!
February 22nd, 2007 23:42
Don’t worry, if Roy tries to beat Jim up, Kevin has his back.
February 22nd, 2007 23:48
I wouldn’t say it’s quite the OC…directed by jj abrahms, it felt more like Lost, the end of the episode was so intense…my jaw hit the floor at the way Roy acted after Pam told him the truth, “I’m going to kill Jim Halpert” was a very Lost way of ending the episode with a cliffhanger like that. it was one of my favorite episodes so far and everyone got to shine in it…
-Michael was far more like-able while still being insane than he’s been in a long time.
- Pam “don’t call me Pammy” Beesly.
- Dwight was on the whole episode, him popping out of nowhere when Jan and Michael were fighting was probably one of my favorite Dwight moments ever.
- Toby, I had a theory he had the hots for Pammy.
- Jan…That’s what she said.
everyone was spot on and they resolved some a few plot lines…(we like you Karen, but you’ve got to go). Now if only jj can continue doing the same with Lost.
Side note: you think jj embedded any easter eggs in this episode?

I am waiting for the big confrontation between Roy and Jim. But just when you think that Roy is going to attack, Kevin will finally have had it with all the delaying in his love life and … Kevin will push Jim out of the way and Roy be the unknowing pawn that just happened to be at the right place at the wrong time. Mighty Kevin will not strike out, he will strike Roy out.
February 23rd, 2007 05:10
Roy was totally creepy. “I’m gonna kill Jim Halpert” from a guy who just trashed a bar is more soap opera than I want to see from The Office.
I’m glad that Pam finally saw something that showed her how wrong Roy is for her though.
February 23rd, 2007 06:16
I think the nail has been put in the Pam/Roy coffin. Finally. I agree with brian, a little too OC. But all in all, a very funny episode. Especially when dwight was in the back seat “don’t break up guys.” Awesome.
February 23rd, 2007 06:18
Enjoyed this so much. Can’t wait to watch it again.
After all the JAM angst of January, I’m enjoying these relatively JAM-free episodes! It’s nice to watch Pam and Jim as their own people, so to speak, and not just as part of JAM.
I’ve been waiting for the RAM breakup since last week (was it only last week?). You knew it was going to happen, and you knew it was going to be good. Roy’s temper seemed to come out of nowhere, though. We’ve always known he wasn’t good enough for Pam, but that was downright scary! I did love how his brother jumped right in.
And, much as I hate to say it, I really liked Karen this week, too. Pranking Jim! That was inspired!
I have to rewatch the Jan-Michael stuff again. I can’t believe Jan did a “that’s what she said.”
February 23rd, 2007 07:06
hey- did I miss something? What episode are you guys referring to when Kevin says he’s got Jim’s back? I don’t remember that part.
February 23rd, 2007 07:29
The way I see it…Roy will jump Jim in the office or the parking lot. After Jim gets clocked, Pam will come running to his side and afterwards she’ll profess her feelings to Jim. Roy will get fired for it, so he’s out of the picture.
February 23rd, 2007 07:34
Ok, who caught the “AFLAC” reference? Pam sees the cute little duck in the machine and Stanley rolls his eyes like he used to at the end of the AFLAC commercials
Very cute.
February 23rd, 2007 07:36
Janie - the episode referred to is “Boys and Girls” where Jan hosts a meeting for all the women in the office while Michael takes the boys down to the warehouse for the day. It was a fairly offhanded comment by Kevin, but one that everyone here seems to remember anyway.
As for the episode, I thought it was brilliant. Everyone keeps saying it felt “a little too O.C.” for them, but I don’t know what that means. I’ve never seen an episode of that show in my life, but I take it to mean that the show took too many soap opera-esque turns and focused too much on relationships.
I disagree entirely. Eveyone on this board has been dying for a Pam/Roy breakup, and the writers have finally delivered it in definitive fashion. You have to villainize Roy once and for all, and getting all scary and violent with sweet little Pam is the best way to do it. Watching him react like that took my breath away and gave the show some of the dramatic weight it sometimes lacks.
I enjoyed the payoff to the Karen/Jim story arc a lot. I was annoyed at first because I remember thinking, “Wow, Karen’s slept with that many people in the company and is still only in a sales position? She must be lousy in the sack. Run away now, Jim!” When she revealed that she was only pranking Jim, all was well. Funny stuff.
I agree the Dwight stuff was slightly over the top, but that’s Dwight for you. As for Michael and Jan, I really like seeing Jan switch from decisive, hard-edged career woman to uncontrollable sex kitten. It adds a layer of depth to the character. Also, “That’s what she said” coming from Jan nearly made me choke on my beer from laughter. Best unexpected line ever!
I was happy to see nothing with regard to the Kelly/Ryan storyline in the bar - talk about played out.
And if you’ve been watching the deleted scenes you know that Toby has had a crush on Pam for awhile, so seeing it get some airtime was nice for a change. He’s the Human Resources guy, yet he’s the most awkward guy in the office when it comes to interpersonal communication. Smell the irony!
Creed is still the coolest guy on the show. Of all the secondary characters on the show, Creed makes the most of his limited screen time.
Anyway, I liked the breadth of this episode/ It covered a lot of ground and provided a couple of super memorable moments for me. Thumbs up!
February 23rd, 2007 07:42
Great episode. I am SO looking forward to Roy going after Jim. Thats gonna be great!
February 23rd, 2007 07:47
Kevin told Jim he has his back in Season 2/ I think it was during the episode where the guys were hanging out in the warehouse while Jan and the ladies were in the conference room.
February 23rd, 2007 07:50
the episode where kevin says that is in boys and girls…its right after booze cruise where pam finds out jim had a crush on her and things are pretty tense between jim and roy…and kevin reassures jim that if anything goes down…”I’ve got your back…”
February 23rd, 2007 08:14
Am I the only one that wants Jim to stay with Karen?
February 23rd, 2007 08:26
‘PAMMY’
February 23rd, 2007 08:37
J- yes, I think you are
I think this episode was great. I liked what happened with Roy at the end.. I think it had to be extreme for Pam to finally get the point. I knew Roy was the “psycho” type from the beginning, because I dated someone just like him for 4 years. So I knew it was coming. I hope nothing serious happens to Jim!!
Karen? Please go away
February 23rd, 2007 13:13
Yeah, even though I think the drama aspects were kind of like The OC there was some really good character development and it was a really funny episode!
February 23rd, 2007 13:57
i think the actor who plays toby (can’t remember his name) wrote the episode.
the office completes me.
=o)
February 23rd, 2007 14:54
Toby’s real name is Paul Lieberstein.
February 23rd, 2007 16:24
I also like Karen, and tho’ I’ll be happy once JAM is a couple, I’ll miss Karen. I’m envisioning Roy giving Jim a bloody nose, with his brother ready to step in. Quick scene(s) I would like to see in this episode: Toby repeatedly going to the bar to get change for $20 bills….showing how much time/money he spent getting the duck for Pam(my).
February 23rd, 2007 19:17
Oh my god, what a crazy episode.
Who knew Roy was THAT crazy? Wow. I also loved Dwight popping up in the end, in the car.
And I especially loved the opening, as a magic camp attendee.

February 23rd, 2007 19:53
Honestly, this is my favorite episode in a whie. Dwight’s whole thing was a little overdone, yes, but everything else made up for it. The one liners were awesome last night, from ketchup fights to oak rocking chairs to that’s what she said. Oh god.
I have no idea what to feel about Toby liking Pam. Should I be worried? I seriously don’t know. I just know JAM is driving me pleasantly insane. But at least Roy is out of the picture. Poor Karen. Now I have to hate her double time.
February 23rd, 2007 23:28
I thought Roy and his brother already had jet skis. I know Pam mentioned in an earlier episode that they bought jet skis, but Roy’s brother spent all day on the one that was supposed to be hers. A minor detail, but it’s kind of odd nonetheless. Oh, and the deleted scene with Ryan and Stanley was one of the funniest (deleted or non) scenes I’ve ever seen.
February 24th, 2007 07:42
I’m a refugee from Cubical World, expelled from my office after twenty years, but still mystified by this obsession with “honesty” shown by the younger people there. In some lights, it seems like a good idea — Pam’s “confession” brought out Real Roy and she prudently dashed from the scene as he trashed the bar. All fine and good. But why did she feel the need to drag Jim’s name into it?
The few older people who do that honesty stuff are usually people who’ve spent too much time in therapy and no one wants to date them either. We often see the younger people as a separate species for the same reason — they intrude on boundaries we felt best left intact, and most secrets we carried were from a past that no longer mattered to us. But by Pam’s honesty, Jim’s past is now affecting his future — a nasty future currently being planned by Roy. It shows how little self-respect Pam had for herself, and how little she felt for both Roy and Jim.
(I’m not talking about guys who “forget” to mention they were married and have three kids who spend every other weekend, or gals who “support” visits to strip clubs and interaction with old girl friends until the day they get the ring on their finger. That is its own class of dishonesty and has nothing to do with old flames that burned with no issue.)
Later, in the car, when Michael told Jan he wanted ketchup fights and tickling and cuddling, he proved to be an older person who watched too many Hallmark Commercials, and he sounded lame — especially since he was talking to the icy, overly adult Jan. Love isn’t like that, and it isn’t always transparent. It shouldn’t be when there are others that might get hurt…
February 24th, 2007 07:45
I loved Dwight during this episode. Usually, I will do something similar at parties where I feel uncomfortable, but Dwight wasn’t uncomfortable at all — he did it for fun, and really enjoyed himself.
Thst was awesome
February 24th, 2007 09:16
I thought it was funny that Kenny piled on trashing the bar for no reason..just started picking up stuff and throwing it
February 24th, 2007 12:38
no, kenny was mad too but it was b/c of his jet skis. If you watch it again he yells “jet skis” as he’s throwing the the glasses.
it cracked me up

I thought Roy and his brother already had jet skis. I know Pam mentioned in an earlier episode that they bought jet skis, but Roy’s brother spent all day on the one that was supposed to be hers
My understanding was they SOLD the jet skis. When Roy is outside and his brother comes out of the bar after they trash it, he says he used the jet ski money to pay off the damage to the bar.
Did anyone notice how Kevin got defensive when Roy started freaking out? That was sweet, although I doubt Kevin would be any match for Roy or his brother.
I thought this was a good episode. It needs some drama, otherwise the plot will never move along.
And I’m glad Roy finally flipped. I didn’t trust his whole “conversion” completely and I knew he’d go back to being old Roy.
But I totally think Pam should call Jim and give him a head’s up.
July 8th, 2007 16:57
Can someone clear up my “jetski” confusion?
I know that the point was they had sold the jet skis. Because in the end they had to use the jet ski money to pay for the damage in the bar. But the idea behind the jet ski jumped around a bit. Roy implied kenny was upset about something regarding the jet ski in the beginning to pam. Fast forward to the bar, Pam says to kenny “sorry about the jet skiis kenny” and kenny looks confused and doesn’t understand. So what’s going on there? Or do I have it all wrong?
