Le Bureau AKA The French Office

LITO Reader Big Tuna sent in a link to the French Version of The Office called “Le Bureau.” The video that they show seems almost exactly like the US Pilot which was almost exactly like the UK Pilot.

I don’t understand French, but it was entertaining to watch this episode and see how they have Frenched it. (<-Michael Joke!) I've seen the US Pilot so many times that I was able to follow along quite easily. The picture above is of their Michael and their Dwight and it's when he finds his personal item in some sort of dessert. In the US version it was a stapler in Jell-o, but I can't tell what the item is nor the dessert. Maybe we have some French LITO readers?

you might checkout the german “the office” which is called “stromberg”, at alluc.org. alluc.org has season1 and 2, season3 is coming up in march.

“stromberg” is set in an insurance company; the german michael office is the bald guy you see in the clips. but “bernd stromberg” is pretty dorky and doesn’t have his very human moments like michael has- he constantly is in trouble and has problems with his authorities which leads to the cause that his branch is absorbed by another branch, the branch of an arabic co-worker.
also, there is a jim (named ulf) and a pam (named tanja) who have a romance from nearly right after the beginning; a dwight (named bertold, or “ernie”).

all in all the series is less funny than the office and lives way more of the character “stromberg” itself, so i am glad that i found out about the office ,)

Instead of putting his office supplies in jello, Paul (French Jim) just puts a piece of cheese in Joel’s (French Dwight) drawer. Which would really be worse then putting things in jello, because jello doesn’t smell like cheese does.

The actor that plays th “Michael” charactor in the Frenched version is the same actor that was in both “Transporter” films.

I think its funny how in every version of this show they manage to find the same sort of goofy cute guy to play the Jim character.

The French Roy character made me laugh. He’s not exactly the contrast with the Jim character that the American version features.

I only watched the first few minutes, and I know this has absolutely nothing to do with the show, but did anyone else notice that the “Pam” was wearing a silver hoop in one ear only?! Is this a French fashion? I definitely found it strange.

It’s not dessert — it’s CHEESE! (probably brie by its appearance). And the characters keep saying “fromage.” Unfortunately I don’t know French beyond a word here and there, so I don’t know what “cheese” puns they’re making.

    Hi guys
first of all thanx for this brilliant website and your posts!
i’m a fan from paris, i didn’t see all the french version yet just the first episode and it’s the worst version, altought ricky gervais is unique the us version is the best especially the second season! anyway i’ll post a comment about the french one but i’m sure it’s going to be “smelly”…like our chees :)

    take care all
