LITO Interview with “Office” Writer Gene Stupnitsky

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Writer Gene Stupnitsky graciously allowed me to interview him recently for Life In The Office. This is the first (of hopefully many) in a series of CAST & CREW interviews. The offer Brian made still stands to any members of the cast and crew who would like to grant LITO an interview.

You may recognize Gene as the head writer of episodes, “The Fight,” “The Secret,” “Michael’s Birthday,” “The Convention,” “Traveling Salesmen,” and “The Return,” or as the writing partner of Lee Eisenberg, but did you know that he has appeared on the show as a Vance refrigeration employee?

Gene, center, cracks Jenna Fischer up on the set of Season 2, Episode 16, “Valentine’s Day.”

Here’s the start of our interview:

1. Which Office character do you most closely identify with, and why?

Benjamin Franklin. Not sure why…

2. Are there any plans for you and Lee Eisenberg to reprise your roles as Vance Refrigeration delivery men?

Despite the huge outpouring of support, sadly there are no plans to bring us back. I have a feeling Greg thinks we’re more valuable in the writers’ room than when we’re giving acting clinics on screen. However, there’s a chance that we’ll end up in a deleted scene sooner or later.

NBC 10 Goes to Scranton

Friday, April 27th, 2007

Here is a cool inside look at Scranton, PA from NBC 10 (Greater Philadelphia, Lehigh Valley, South Jersey, Delaware) by Tim Furlong.

All of the Scranton props you see on the show — like a chamber of commerce plaque, the Froggy 101 FM bumper sticker on Dwight’s desk, the Scranton pencil cup on Pam’s desk — is all legit stuff.

And then there are the references to real places in town, like Farley’s Restaurant, which got a mention. They reciprocated by creating a Michael Scott burger. When a delivery man wearing a Niko-Bella Deli uniform delivered Michael his bologna with ketchup and pickles birthday sandwiches, the real store was excited to see its fake delivery guy on screen.”We were all excited about it. We had a little party here and we all watched it together,” said one deli worker.

I hope everyone has a terrific weekend! On Monday, I’ll be posting a VERY SPECIAL LITO POST…so get excited!

“The Office” Season 3, Episode 21. “Product Recall”

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

“The Office” Season 3, Episode 21.  “Product Recall”

In tonight’s episode, “Product Recall,” the Dunder-Mifflin gang showed their true colors.  Although I’d watched the cold open over and over again, I still cracked up the moment Jim, clad in his 11-dollar Dwight costume, entered the frame, and I didn’t stop laughing until the episode was over in an inspired reverse role-play by Dwight.  CLASSIC!

Rainn Wilson’s New Role

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

This article from Cinema Blend discusses one of Rainn’s newest roles in Girlfriend Experience.

Variety says that Wilson will play a geek who hires a prostitute to pretend to be his girlfriend. He came up with the concept himself and approached cousins Mark and Brian Gunn to write the screenplay. The Gunns wrote the script for Mighty Mouse and Juvie, a vehicle for Wilson’s TV boss Steve Carell. Brian Gunn is also the brother-in-law of “The Office” cutie-pie Jenna Fischer. That would certainly make Thanksgiving more interesting. A director has not been named.
