Warning! Spoilers ahead for the “Money” episode, 4×04.
Let me begin by saying that this was the first one hour episode that felt like an hour. No, no, no, before ya’ll start writing me to say that like Toby, I should just “take a letter opener and stick it in my skull” (lol) I’m not saying I didn’t like the episode. Quite the contrary in fact, I loved it! It’s just that the different storylines to “Money” could have easily stood on their own as seperate episodes they were so strong. Not that I’m complaining! NBC, if you read this, keep those one hour shows coming!
But seriously, Dwight’s beet farm becoming a bed and breakfast?!? That Pam and Jim spend the night at?!? With Dwight and Mose?!? Clearly, my overuse of punctuation lets ya’ll LITO readers know just how giddy that whole storyline made me. There could have easily been a whole hour episode just on that alone.
But, that was not all “Money” had to offer. We also got to see Michael moonlighting as a telemarketer, Dwight/Angela/Andy awkwardness, and Ryan/Kelly/Darryl developments. All in all, a JAM (pardon the pun) packed show!
Ok, back to the B&B. I don’t know what made me happier, Pam and Jim spending the night together (albeit seperate “not customarily sized/ homemade twin beds) or the fact that it was at the Schrute family farm. Or, as Pam put it, “The Beets Motel, The Embassy Beets, or The Radish Inn”. Too cute!
I loved seeing more of Dwight’s home and his cousin Mose. (For those of you who don’t know, cousin Mose is played by Office writer, Michael Shur.) And oh, poor Dwight! He has shaved his face since last episode, but his pain over losing Angela is still palpable. How about when he was keening alone in his room clutching her figurine? Ugh! It broke my heart.
JAM fans, like myself, were rewarded with lots of great scenes tonight. The B&B scenes obviously, but my favorite one by far was when Jim was comforting Dwight in the office stairwell and he recounted his pain over losing Pam, then marched himself right upstairs for a big ol’ smooch. And his talking head? “I’m really passionate about Italian food, in fact I’m in love with Italian food.” *sniff* We all know he wasn’t talking about spaghetti!
Back at the office, everyone was concerned over Michael’s money woes. Creed advised him to declare bankruptcy, which his alias William Charles Schneider, has done numerous times. (lol) Oscar used Ryan’s new addition to the office, Power Point, to explain Michael’s budget. Michael was impressed, but when told by Oscar that Power Point was only a presentation tool and couldn’t fix his money woes for him, he replied, “you’re a presentation tool”.(lol) In the end, Jan comes to his rescue. Together, they are a disfunctional match made in heaven. He is broke, but she and her boobs are sticking by him anyway.
I must say, I really like the Darryl/Kelly storyline. It’s great that Craig Robinson has been made a regular this season. Dinkin Flicka, baby! It will be a hoot to see where the writers take these two characters because Darryl won’t play Kelly’s games like Ryan did. In fact, she seems exasperated by his simplicity complaining in her talking head that, “Darryl says exactly what he is thinking. What kind of game is that?”
Now that Dwangela is no more, it seems that Andy is making more headway with our little “booster seat”. Although she wasn’t responding to his attempts to woo her by “moonwalking past her desk”, he definitely struck a nerve by surprising her with a new cat. Abba serenades? Cat in a box? I can’t wait to see what he’ll come up with next…
Well, that’s all for me folks. As always, thanks for reading and have a great week!
~Donna
Only 6 days and 20 hours until the next new Office episode. And, only 7 days 6 hours until the Office Convention in Scranton! I’m going, are you?
Nice review! I wish they would have showed more of Jim and Pam actually at the beet farm, not just clips. But that stairwell scene was too cute. Poor Dwight.
Great review, great episode. Pam & Jim fixed the problem of separate not customarily sized beds as the camera showed during their review montage. I wonder if the good, not great taxidermist stuffed the bird that Jim held up in the doorway of their room. Their concern for Dwight was so sweet, they want everyone to be as happy as they are. Jim opening up to Dwight in the stairwell was truly deep and amazing. It really showed how much he truly cares. But I like how they made the scene funny in the end by having Dwight turn around and try to reach out to Jim and he’s already gone to express his love for Italian food. I just loved the confused look on Dwight’s face. Scene’s like this are what makes The Office so great.
Great, great, great review. I agree with most of your points on JAM. The whole Jim and Dwight stair scene was very real and human. My heart was ripped apart when Dwight went to touch Jim and he wasn’t there.
Did you happen to notice that the cat Andy caught in the warehouse was Garbage? It wasn’t keeping still in Angela’s arms just like it didn’t with Dwight.
How messed up is that?
Oh, Andy. How can I hate him when he’s such an easy tool to love?
I missed the beds being pushed together! I’ll have to watch it again to check it out…:) That’s HUGE for a JAM fan, like myself! Jeez, how did I miss that?!?
And the scene in the stairwell with Dwight and Jim? Just amazing! And Dwim fans (you know you’re out there!) are thrilled, I’m sure.
I don’t get the part about the Italian food. What it the meaning?
