Mindy Ephron Take On The Strike

Mindy Ephron (Kelly Kapoor) is not only an actor but one of the shows writers and producers. She has a great blog that I love to read. I feel like I get a small taste of what the good life is… ;)

Anyways, you may have already seen the video that we posted on the writers dealing with the strike. Mindy has written an article for her blog explaining her stance.

Anyway, I’ve hesitated writing about the strike, because while I believe passionately that we striking for a good reason, I didn’t want to incur the contempt of non-writers or fans of the show.

Why? It’s simple. I may be the single worst person on this planet who could speak out for the writers plight, because: 1) I am an adult who is lucky enough to have enough disposable income that I literally have a website talking about how I fritter away money on stupid shit. I’m doing fine. and 2) I’m a comedy writer, not a politician or even a person known to make persuasive arguments. I’ve solved most of my conflicts by crying or threatening to kill myself. Opponents of the strike could point to this URL as the reason why writers are the worst form of overpaid greedbags, the way al Qaeda shows “The Anna Nicole Show” to recruit people to suicide bomb Western places.

Really great link! Mindy’s blog is funny & to the point. Only one thing, it’s Mindy Kaling, and her character is Kelly Kapoor.

For whatever reason, her blog lists her name as Mindy Ephron. But yes, Jake’s post refers to the writer/actress credited on The Office as Mindy Kaling.

Mindy Kaling really admires the writer Nora Ephron, who is responsible for the movies “You’ve Got Mail” and “Sleepless In Seattle.” So, partially to honor Nora Ephron, and partially because she is flakey, Mindy Kaling blogs as “Mindy Ephron.” I found this information in an online Mindy Kaling interview. http://radaronline.com/from-the-magazine/2007/10/mindy_kaling_office_2.php

    Thanks for your link, Jake.

Being a writer is so hard. Those 100 hour work weeks in a dark, dangerous, poorly ventilated factory and those third world wages that barely cover the cost of a soy chai tea.

    Oh wait, nevermind. THEY’RE RICH.

I recall reading in an interview with Mindy Kaling that she chose the name “Ephron” for her blog as a tribute to the Ephron sisters (Nora, Delia, and Amy), her favourite screenwriters.

So, no, it’s not her married name, just a nom de plume for the blog. Mindy’s real name is Vera Chokalingam. “Mindy” is a childhood nickname and “Kaling” is from the middle of “ChoKALINGam.” When Michael was planning to move to New York, his prospective roommate was named Chokalingam.

Hey, acsenray! Thanks for the cool information about “ChoKALINGam.” I love learning new “Office” trivia, and I can’t wait to spring this on a fellow Officionado!

    Welcome, Bob.

And I think I recall reading that the “Mindy” nickname came from “Mork and Mindy.”

Seriously, stop “reposting” these blog entries in the RSS feed…. Figure out how to edit an entry without making it appear as “new” in your RSS feeds.
