NBC’s Hulu looks “O.K.”
Over the weekend I got invited to the public Beta of Hulu. For those of you who don’t know, Hulu is NBC’s venture to solve the online copyright fiasco. After pulling all of their content from the Apple’s iTunes Store (A move I think will actually cost them more $$), they decided to invest their time in Hulu. Hulu offers full episodes of shows, such as The Office, Scrubs, House, 24, Family Guy, The Simpsons and even more titles from the big networks. It even allows people to embed the episode on a website or blog, just like what I will do at the end of this post.
However, there are slight commercial interruptions, which for some people is too much. I personally loved the fact to be able to pay $1.99 for an episode of The Office (without commercials) and be able to watch it on my computer, iPod, iPhone, and Apple TV. Hulu does have pretty good video and audio quality. Personally, I don’t think it can offer the same convenience of iTunes.

That’s great Chris! So do you think this will solve the problem of overseas fans not being able to get the show?
I love the fact that there will be no commercials. The commercials on NBC.com were just ridiculous! Go Hula!

oh there are commercials….its like nbc.com on steroids..just a better in line player..
um grover… i may have “done” or am “doing” that.
It is how NBC wanted to cut down on privacy, but are instead in my opinion causing it to expand

Isn’t Hulu one of the sites that the writers are striking about since, like NBC.com’s video service, they don’t get residual payments on content there? If using this service means The Office writers aren’t getting paid what they deserve, I can’t in good conscience use it.

Doesn’t work for us here in Canada. That sucks!

Doesn’t work for us here in Canada. But I agree with Stuart, and in good concscience, wouldn’t use it if it was available here.

I actually agree with you all about that. I actually only watched a little bit of the office (a whole 30 seconds worth)

Hulu is nice. I just watched the episode thanks to your embed. As for the quality, it is a lot nicer then NBC.com and isn’t at all skippy. At the same time however, I miss having the convenience of actually buying the episode and having it on my iPod to watch whenever I wanted - no computer required once it was actually on there.
