Scranton gets last laugh

Scranton, PA has never been what people would consider a travel, “hot spot”. But now it seems, Scranton might have the last laugh. Due to The Office, it now gets the kind of national exposure that Chamber of Commerce types can only dream about. It’s now a bonafied “travel destination”.

“Scranton is like another character in the show,” said convention organizer Tim Holmes, who said he had a 2 a.m. cigar with actors Baumgartner, B.J. Novak and Craig Robinson. The actors now have a bit of perspective, he added. “Angela (Kinsey) said every day they get ready to shoot, (they say) ‘We have to get our Scranton on!’”

It’s nice to see my hometown getting the last laugh. For years, Scranton has been the butt of MANY Hollywood jokes. For instance, in the movie “Kingpin,” Munson, the former bowling champion disappears off the radar. Everybody wonders where he finally “ended up.” The next scene shows a dilapidated row house, while some sad-sack song plays in the background. The screen graphic says “Scranton, Pa,” as a punchline. Those were the dark, pre-Office days!
