Amy Ryan to return as Holly
Amy Ryan, Academy Award nominated actress, will be returning to The Office in the Fall. Ryan played Holly, Dunder-MIfflin’s new Scranton HR manager in the season finale, taking over for the departed Toby Flenderson. Steve Carell’s Michael Scott and Holly immediately hit it off over the course of the finale, sparking discussion among fans of The Office whether Holly would return for season 5. She will, but not permanently. Variety announced today that Amy Ryan has signed on for five more episodes of The Office for next season.

I usually don’t mind “spoilers,” and I’m not really bothered that I read this. But I was intrigued by the “Holly” character, and I liked the idea that maybe Michael Scott had found his “soul mate.” Now we all KNOW that after five episodes, this will end badly, and/or sadly. Again, not a big deal, but it was more fun for me to imagine that two goofy people would find that they were made for each other, and might actually stay together.
Having said that, HDF, thanks for working those “HotDogFingers” to the bone uncovering Office material!

Ha ha, I may be going stealth these days, but I do sometimes surface with some good tips when I see them.
I guess that’s how the story goes Bob. If Michael Scott found true happiness, we may not have a story anymore. We can’t just have a bunch of happy couples running around the office, that would be boring.

HDF, if Michael Scott found a soulmate in Holly, I don’t think the office would be filled with a bunch of happy couples; I imagine that Michael and Holly would be blissfully unaware of the misery they were inflicting on everyone else… sort of like “Michael Scott to the second power.” Or, maybe even “Michael Scott Squared.” *shudder*
My math may be fuzzy, but I don’t think it would add up to “boring.”

no Bob, that is just the writer from BuddyTV’s theory. All NBC said is that Amy Ryan will be around for five episodes.
The writer from BuddyTV is the one drawing the conclusion that is will be the first five eps and that the Holly/Michael romance will end badly.
Makes sense really, but for all we know, NBC may have something up it’s sleeve that we are completely unaware of at this point.
Maybe they will offer her a bunch of money to stick around for longer? Maybe she’ll shoot four eps and then reamerge at the end of the season for a cliffhanger heading into season 5? maybe she’ll reappear on the spin-off?
maybe, maybe, maybe!!! lol
