Comments on Donna’s recap of “Weight Loss”

Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to comment about the show, and my recap of it. There were so many interesting points brought up that I decided to write a post to cover them all.

Many of you commented on the new guy friend that Pam has. Or, as I like to call him, “NYC Jim” (lol). Tony commented that the actor looks familiar. Good eye, Tony! The actor’s name is Rich Sommer. You may have seen him in “The Devil Wears Prada”, or on tv’s “Mad Men”. Bob and Mattie also commented that her new “friendship” might spell trouble for JAM.

Jenna Fischer was quoted by BuddyTV about her character’s adventures in art school and the people she is encountering. “Pam is] away at art school right now.  Pam was accepted to Pratt, and she’s living in New York, and there is a whole new world opening up for her,” Fischer reveals.  “We’ve been shooting some really great scenes at USC with Rich Sommer and John Cabrera and having so much fun.  It’s like we’re doing our own show called Art School.”  So, based on that comment, I assume we will be seeing more of “NYC Jim”. I’m not sure yet how he will figure into Pam & Jim’s relationship. But with the engagement now in place, I hope the writer’s won’t make it a “love triangle”. I say… been there, felt the angst, done that!

Another recurring comment was about Michael’s goatee. Apparently, it was a “now you see it, now you don’t” gaff in the episode. I actually hadn’t noticed that, and I even watched the show twice! But Pat, Jeff and Jason noticed! I swear, nothing gets by The Office fans…We’re too smart for our own good. ;) Except me of course, who didn’t notice! :(

Jenn and Kathryn commented about Meredith’s face. I was wondering about that too. Even this summer when they released a few photograph stills from the episode, you could tell she just wasn’t right! Well, check out the second deleted scene for that explanation! Apparently, Meredith went fishing with “some guys” and got sunburned. She may or may not have caught fish. She can’t recall! lol

Eric commented that he suspects Angela might be pregnant. He points to the fact that during the weigh-in the group kept gaining weight. It was also mentioned in the show that Angela’s dr. told her she has to gain weight. Hmmm…there has been no spoilers that I know of that point to a pregnancy for her character, but it certainly would put a monkey (no pun intended) wrench into her engagment plans with Andy! Guess we’ll just have to wait and see on that one…

Chrissy the Curvy Catholic also comments on the “little things” that make the show so special. I completely agree Chrissy! For me, Dwights comment on the scale about “if you can’t swallow it, just hold it in your mouth” and Jim’s reaction to that comment was a laugh-out-loud moment. Only a true fan of the show would even have gotten that joke! For those of you that also enjoy the little-moments that show provides, you should join us over at the LITO forums. Those of us that frequent the threads over there would love your company, and we also revel in those special little Office moments. Come check it out and join us!

And, I would also like to mention that I never wrote about the conclusion of Holly’s date with the yoga instructor in my recap. At the end of the episode, it was mentioned that Holly’s date never called her back. Michael is relieved and their flirtation continues…

Thanks so much for all the comments guys! It makes writing the recap so fun.

Enjoy the rest of your week, and I hope to see you back here soon! ~Donna

I noticed this exact thing as well and was just about to right a post about it! haha great minds think alike. I defineately believe she is pregnant and I wonder how Andy will take the news if and when he finally finds out. Dwight can have kids haha.

I wouldn’t want Angela to be pregnant and I can’t imagine that they would make her pregnant. It would be too many pregnancies and babies. I didn’t even think about that when she said that her doctor wants her to gain weight. I thought because she’s so thin and petite, her doctor didn’t want her to lose any weight. I want a quick resolution to that triangle but not with an Angela/Dwight baby.

I don’t think that the “NYC Jim” will be causing any trouble for Jam. Not in an another triangle way. Again, I believe that it would be too much. We have Jan/Michael/Holly and Dwight/Angela/Andy. And after Roy and then Karen, another person getting between Jam would be too much. People would lose interest. The Office writers are original people, I’m sure they can come up with more interesting stories for Jam. Just no Ross/Rachel storyline please.

As far as Angela getting pregnant, there was another clue…

After one of the weigh-ins, Andy becomes incensed in the 23rd minute. He demands to know who is slacking. There is a quick cutaway to Angela, with a further zoom-in. It may be just me but she looks guiltyish.

well, the pregnancy certainly seems like a plausible rumor considering all these points. however, you never know with the writers. They are a clever bunch and might be just trying to throw us all off.

I don’t think that NYC Jim will cause any trouble for JAM. I think he and Pam are just friends. Andy and Angela are already on the rocks, with their wedding plans not going well, and I think they will break up very soon. Maybe a pregnancy will do it. Dwight being the father?

In regard to Michael’s goatee. The only scene where the goatee disappeared was in the break room when Jim was talking about lunch being awkward without Pam there. I’m pretty sure that the “documentarians” were using a stock scene of awkwardness in the break room without Pam from before Michael grew the goatee.

Essentially like Jim flashbacking to an awkward lunch memory and the audience being able to see it.

So the goatee wasn’t there because that scene wasn’t part of the plot timeline, basically.

    RETCON FTW!
