LITO Exclusive: Steve Carell is just a Small Town Guy
Steve Carell has bought a local general store in Marshfield, Massachusetts. “The Marshfield Hills General Store,” like all small town local businesses was feeling the crunch of the economy and was then put up for sale.

Carell, once a long time resident of Marshfield, occasionally comes back to the town throughout the year. He apparently saw the store for sale and then decided to buy it so it would not be shut down forever.
Carell learned the store was up for sale in October, when his sister-in-law Tish Vivado went to California to visit Carell and her sister, actress Nancy Walls. According to Vivado, who lives in Marshfield, Carell had always been interested in being part of the community. Carell purchased the store in November and the ownership changed hands on New Year’s Day.
The store now is being run by Vivado and staff of four people. But they could get some high-profile help in the summer, when Carell plans to take an active role in the day-to-day activities.
“I will be manning the cash register, and stocking the shelves as time permits!” wrote Carell, a Massachusetts native. “For the time being, however, I am looking to give the building a bit of TLC.”
As a local Massachusetts resident myself, I came across this story a few months ago and thought I would pass this old story along to you. However, I have bit of more local tidbits that only I can provide. The town of Marshfield is very close to me, so I like all Cape Cod teenagers frequent the many beaches of the East Coast of Massachusetts. I found myself one day going into this very same store. In the front of the store there were “Office” T-Shirts on sale. I then walked up to the cash register and asked the worker if this was the same store I heard about a few months back. He smiled at me and walked me over to the T-Shirts on sale and showed me a few of them that had, what I thought to be at the time, aftermarket writing on them. It turns out that Steve Carell, our very own Michael Scott, was in the store the day before. Like the article stated, he did indeed stock the shelves. As an added gesture to show his appreciation to the town he signed a few of the “Office” T-Shirts. I of course, being The Office fan I am, purchased a shirt with Carell’s signature on it.
So if any of you out there find yourself in Marshfield, I strongly suggest you take a ride over to the general store. You may meet the legend, but you certainly will walk away with some one of a kind Office paraphernalia.

P.S. A few of my friends that live in Marshfield have indeed seen Carell out jogging and just being a regular hometown guy.

Thanks for the cool story, Chris. I really like that you scored an autographed T-shirt right off the rack!
If I’m not mistaken, BJ Novak and John Krasinski are also from Massachusetts. Maybe they’ll shop at Steve Carell’s general store, too.

That’s cool. This story sounds like it’s almost too good to be true, but apparently it is.
BTW, Welcome Back, LITO!

Chris,
You must post a picture of your one-of-a-kind Office find.
That’s some lucky geography.
