Michael & Packer
There seems to be a trend happening with Michael this season, perhaps in preparation for Steve Carell’s departure; I like to call it a sort of social and emotional awakening. Every time Michael has a new epiphany, it has something to do with Holly. Even in the Sex Ed episode, when Michael only spoke to Holly on the phone, she seemed to trigger a kind of self discovery that is very out of character for Michael. Could it be that Holly, in her own weird way, is making Michael normal? Even though Holly, to quote Jim, “is kind of a dork”, she has this kind of evolving effect on Michael and it will be interesting to see what his character transforms into by the time Steve’s last episode comes around, which, unfortunately, is coming around way too soon.
Now that I’ve given my psychological analysis for the day, on to the episode:
After years of flying in and out of Avoca International Airport, the grizzled, weary road warrior wants to come home; Yes, Todd Packer desires to settle down, and reconnect with his roots in northeastern Pennsylvania. But is Scranton really ready to embrace an obnoxious ignoramus like him? If Scranton could talk (and had thumbs), I could picture it saying “Who has two thumbs and hates Todd Packer? This town.”

I’ll admit that I was not looking forward to “Threat Level Midnight.” An episode based on an improbable Michael Scott movie extravaganza didn’t sound like “The Office” that I know and love. It seemed more like the kind of idea that desperate sitcom writers have always resorted to: “Hey, let’s have our characters put on a show; we’ll have them sing and dance… and for the grand finale, our star can jump a shark.” I was actually dreading “Threat Level Midnight” right up until airtime. As I was watching it, I thought “Well this isn’t too bad.” And when it was over… I said “Well, that was fun.” Read on »
Geez Louise, Michael Scott’s opus was supposedly filmed in Scranton, Pa; Well, it turns out the movie is a little light in the local reference department. And of those gems that do appear, several are too far away, or stuck in the shadows, or they are on screen just too briefly for me to identify. I did find a few, and I’m going to keep researching and updating, and hopefully eagle-eyed readers can help me out here. But this dry patch doesn’t put Scrantonicity quite at “Threat Level Midnight;” It’s more like “Threat Level 10:45.” So let’s synchronize our Scrantonicity watches and get started. Read on »
My first thought after watching the latest Office was this: for an episode titled “PDA,” it sure was light on the “PDS.” (Public Displays of Scrantonicity.) For starters, they didn’t even name the restaurant serving the Valentine’s Day “bottomless” champagne to Jim and Pam. Of course, it is obvious why they didn’t; no restaurant would want to be associated with that kind of reckless, irresponsible publicity. At least I don’t think any restaurant would. Remember Pam getting her drunk on at Chili’s? Chili’s insisted on a filmed rebuttal, spelling out their policy of not over-serving guests. Oh well, at least Jim and Pam had the good sense to take a cab. Read on »
When we last left Michael Scott, he was jubilant over the fact that his true love Holly, finally realized that they were meant for each other. Up next? The perfect Valentine’s Day episode, “PDA”. I really liked this episode. It had all the right ingredients for a classic Office episode; it was set in the office, and it had a simple relatable plot line. After all, who among us hasn’t wanted to shout, “Get a room!” at one time or another in our lives to some in-love/lust couple? And if you haven’t felt the need to do that, then YOU may be one of those PDA people yourself! (we kid, we kid! LITO does not imply any preconceived notions about our readers, however perverted they may be!)

What to say about The Search? Yes, the entire episode hinges on a number of unlikely happenstances and it is a little light on laughs… but I must admit I kinda liked it. And it had it’s sweet moments. So…. not a tier one episode by any stretch… but not a complete dog either. Read on »
Rarely has an episode of The Office featured so much outside action as “The Search.” There was “Survivor Man,” which took place in the… (ahem)… deep Pennsylvania forest. Also “Booze Cruise” which featured the shoreline of Lake Wallenpaupack at night. And “Beach Games,” where the gang frolicked on a non-existent sandy beach at beautiful Lake Scranton, which is actually a reservoir with water that is strictly off-limits to people. But a show devoted to wandering the city streets? I knew this was gonna be interesting… (at least to me)… Read on »
