    Happy New Year, Suri!

The Office has never done a “New Year’s” episode; that’s one I’d like to see. Think of all the drama AND all the funny this bunch would bring to a New Year’s Eve party. :)

  2. Donna says:

I agree Suri. Their resolutions alone could fill an episode!

    Beautiful layout Nette!

“Their resolutions alone could fill an episode!”

This got me thinking about what the non-existent “New Year’s Eve” episode would be like: A typically disastrous party in the Dunder-Mifflin office, interspersed with talking heads of everyone offering their resolutions; except for Robert California; HIS talking head would instead go off musing on a bizarre tangent about the “nature of all the futile, inscrutable resolutions that inevitably end up resolutely unresolved…” Something like that. If I had any talent for writing dialogue, I’d continue. ;-)

Oh, and everyone in their talking head segment would be wearing a jaunty “New Year’s” hat, like the pointy ones… or a top hat. Kelly would look good in a tiara. :)

They’ve made new year’s resolutions before I think. Creed’s was to do a cartwheel, which led to some brilliant scenes, best of which (in my opinion) is Erin performing a perfect cartwheel and Creed shouting “F*** you!”.

I’m pretty sure they were new year’s resolutions but I’m not entirely sure. They could have been by the working year instead of the calendar year, because I definitely don’t remember any kind of new year’s party to accompany the resolutions.

    1. Bob says:

Thanks, Jonah! I’d forgotten all about “Ultimatum” from season 7, that ran right after the “Classy Christmas” episode. That would put it time-wise right around New Year’s, and here is an excerpt from Wikipedia:

Pam (inspired by the cheerful, involved office administrator from Vance refrigeration) puts up a New Year’s Resolution Board in the office so everyone can post their resolutions. These include Michael resolving to floss, Kevin resolving to eat more vegetables, Ryan resolving to “live life like it’s an art project,” and Creed resolving to learn how to do a cartwheel.

Thanks again for refreshing my memory, Jonah, as I’d forgotten all about the Office New Year’s resolutions. :) I’d like to blame it on the fact that it was a LONG time ago, but it was only from last season.

I’d still like to see a raucuous Office New Year’s party episode. I can really picture Phyllis wearing silly glasses made out of the numbers “2012.”

  5. Suri says:

How about Dwight’s resolution to meet a loose woman? LOL Andy liked it so much, he opted to change his resolution to the same. I think that’s when Darryl took them both to the book store in search of loose women and they ended up at the roller rink. I’m pretty sure that was the same episode. It was a real hoot.

Suri, I moseyed on over to OfficeQuotes and scanned the script for “Ultimatum.” I’m amazed at how much of that episode I had forgotten. As soon as I read some scenes, though, they came right back to me. That’s actually a fun way to re-experience the show. That’s a PLUS for memory loss! :)

I keep picturing what the Office characters would look like in their New Year’s Eve talking heads; Jim Halpert would wear a pointy hat, at a jaunty angle.

You mean something like this picture?

Also, to refresh your memory about The Ultimatum, you could have just gone back and read my recap:

        http://www.lifeintheoffice.com/2011/01/26/the-ultimatum-suri%E2%80%99s-recap/

I was wondering why I so vividly remembered the details of that episode. Then I realized that since I recapped it, I probably watched it numerous times, forever burning it into my memory; which isn’t that reliable these days either. I think some Ginko Biloba is in order. :)

  6. Bob says:

Suri, WHERE did you come up with that picture of JKras, with the perfect pointy party hat perched on his tousled head at the appropriately jaunty angle? Not to mention the hooter hanging from his slack-jawed mouth, as if in a strung-out, hung-over mode. Yeah, this whole photo is a HOOT.

I will now proceed to re-read your recap. :)

    Bob,

That was actually a cover photo for a local Boston magazine, The Improper Bostonian, from way back in December of 2005; when The Office was just becoming popular. Reading your description of a New Year’s partying Jim just jogged my memory and made me think of the photo. The only problem was, I couldn’t remember the magazine it appeared in. I have to admit,it took a bit of internet searching to come up with it, as many websites have been updated since then. But once I narrowed down the magazine name, it was a bit easier. I knew you would appreciate it and considering your reaction; it seems I was right and it was time well spent. I really didn’t mind revisiting the photo myself; it’s quite adorkable. There’s a rather witty interview that went along with it as well. A few sites still had it posted, I’ll see if I can find you a link. I’m posting from my phone right now; it’s much easier from a computer.

Suri, I can’t stop myself from laughing-out-loud when I see this apropos picture: http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/8066/krasinskill3.png

Thanks so much for digging up such a vague but pertinent memory of yours… from 2005! This really makes my day. :D I hope other people stumble onto this, so they can appreciate it, too.

  9. Suri says:

Jkras was an up and coming hot actor back then, I’m sure at least all the girls have seen it.

Oh and here’s a link to the interview. Kath over at Give Me My Remote was gracious enough to post it. She had an actual copy of the magazine since she happens to live in Boston.

    1. Bob says:

Thanks for the cool JKras interview link! He comes across as very witty and likeable. (His new haircut is less ‘wing-y.’) Of course, this interview was WAY back in 2005, before he became a BIG star. So, I hope he is still as charming and humble.

Wow Suri, you found some really good links here. No wonder LITO is the #1 “go-to” Office website. :D
