so, does anyone have any feedback on why we haven't been getting much of a response?
I checked the comment logs--there was even a higher volume of comments when I first took over the writing...what's going on?
it's okay, i can take criticism! |

Elyse, the LITO community took a huge hit when the site was down for several days, followed by several more days of neglect on the main page. By the time you came on board, Adam had decided to start his own forum. That split the LITO group in half. Now, it's like we have two party-planning committees in our office!
The solution is obvious. The LITO party-planning committee has to feature a "special event"... a margarita-karaoke party! Let's start hanging some brightly colored flyers around the internet! |

Personally, I think I have commented more with you than with Brian. I like forums better than blog with comments. I know...it doesn't make much sense. Anyway, don't worry about it! I will gladly join your "party planning committee" if you'll have me. _________________ Team Karen |

And I, to you, in addition, feel the same feelings that you are as well....about comments. I perfer posting in the forum...since topics usually overlap in both the mainsite posts and forum topics. Perhaps you could somehow incorropate forum topics and comments together? Not sure how that'd work though... _________________

So basically you still get the blog info and people can still comment on it...but the forum incorporated... I think forum's can be really hooking things. I this may get people hooked. Unless of course PDB and I are in the minority and lots more people [refer comments. _________________ Team Karen |

I used to comment a LOT. I used to try and be the first one to comment on everything Brian put up. Then he made the forums, and my comment production went down to ~0. Not necessarily a BAD thing, I guess. _________________ http://www.OfficeQuotes.us

It's probably just me, but I rarely go to the main page, it was a habit when I had dial-up since there would be tons of great youtube videos of the cast and I couldn't watch any, and now that I'm on cable I keep the habit up. But hey, I could work on breaking that habit.
Oh, Q and I definitely digress this much in real life, why talk about something when you can talk about EVERYTHING?!

I also almost never go to the mainsite. I just find it eaisier to go directly to the fourms, plus I get my Office info mostly form Officetally. I know, I know, I'm a traitor! _________________ team jim. |

I usually glance over the front page, but any videos from NBC.com won't play for me (as an overseas viewer) so most of the time i go straight into the forum. _________________ Have you ever... pooped a balloon?

I think of the LITO mainpage as the our "billboard on the highway." Anybody cruising the 'net, looking for "Office"-related stuff will find the mainpage before they discover the forum. So, it behooves us to keep the LITO mainpage looking lively. That's why I post there a lot, and I'd like to see others do so, too. Besides, Elyse is out there workin' hard for us, searching every nook and cranny for official "Officionado" offerings. The more feedback she gets, the more nooks and the more crannies she'll search. She'll be SO enthusiastic, she won't overlook a single nook! (Or cranny, whatever the heck that is.)
Proofreading this, the word "behooves" made me laugh. |

I believe there's a plugin somewhere for the blog posts to link to the same topic on the board. For instance, if Elyse were to post something like "Margarita Party 2007!" on the blog, she could write the article there, but clicking the link to "read more" or "comments" would take you to the full post on the forum. I am not explaining this very well...
I'm not even sure if it's available for WordPress + phpBB as a combination, but I will do some hunting tonight! _________________ Michael: Early worm gets the worm!

Perhaps publicizing the forum better on the mainsite will be beneficial to both the forum itself and the mainsite. Currently, the forum is just off to the side, represented by a small link. Unless I was specifically looking to see if the site included a forum, I probably wouldn't notice it. Also, its small-ness sort of gives off the perception that the forum isn't nearly as significant or popular as it is. If the link was bigger (perhaps with a graphic or up top somewhere, near the header), more people might notice it and/or realize that its a very exciting aspect of LITO. And more comments on the mainsite would occur because people would either:
A. join the forum and thus, visit the mainsite more
B. simply realize that this is NOT a dead/unpopular website (by noticing the fairly large number of forum members, whether they themselves join or not) _________________

If we can figure out a way to link the mainpage's content to the forum through comments, that just begs for easy publicity. If there's a way to link the two, then a simple mainpage post announcing the change, BOOM! publicity. Once that happens maybe the LITO community will grow.
P.S. Keep up the good work Elyse. I still need another place to get my Office news and you have been doing a great job with posting new and interesting content. _________________ Whenever I am about to do something, I think, "would an idiot do that?" And if they would, I do not do that thing. |

Here's my theory/suggestion. It's not very technilogically efficient, but take it for what it's worth!
1) Create a separate forum (aside from the 8 you already have) called something like "Main Page Articles".
2) Every article you make on the main page, make a forum post about it in the new forum you created.
3) Include a link in every main page article, linking to the corresponding post in the forum.
4) Let the discussion begin! _________________ http://www.OfficeQuotes.us

Elsye, since you're running the site, you should get Jossifer or MixedBerryJAM to give you forum admin powers. They can create the new forum for you, and set it to where only admins can create posts (kind of like the episode forum).
Then you can just go in and post the new article in the forums every time you post a new something on the main page.
Let me know if you need more help, I'll be glad to give it! _________________ http://www.OfficeQuotes.us
