Kevin, thanks for all the links. This gives me a good idea of what it was like on the main floor of the convention. During Seattle's Norwescon, I very rarely have a chance to get out from behind the bar and leisurely soak in the sights, like the cosplayers. (I had to look that new word up.)

I sold some stuff which was cool. It gave me confidence that the art book I want to do just may have an audience. I really didn't get a chance to walk around too much. A little. It was slow going. I did see a few of my favorite comic artists though, which is cool.

That must have felt good to make some sales. I'm sure there is an audience for your art, and this has been a step in the right direction. Who were some of your favorite comic artists that you met? I know you admire Bill Watterson, and I've been reading a lot of his old strips online, and just marvelling at his work. I'd like to check out other folks that you think are worthy.

Well, a lot of them are comic artists. I grew up reading comics drawn by Michael Golden and I saw him and said hi. I spoke to him for awhile last year and bought a couple of books of his. Love Michael Golden, he's an industry legend. And he's a nice guy, too.

Only caught a glance of Adam Hughes this year. Bought some books from him last year. Another of my favorites.

Missed these two guys but I love their work. And I've spoken to Murphy and he's a nice guy.

I didn't have a lot of money so I wanted to buy one cool, unusual thing so I saw this guy, who I never heard of before.
http://antlucia.com/gallery.html
I bought the Forbidden Planet one, 'cause I love that movie. And it was ten bucks. On Sunday, guys are trying to move as much stuff as possible so that's the best time to buy. The piece I really wanted was too much. Next time.

I saw some other guys I love too but it was late on Sunday so I didn't really speak to them. Just a lot of really good comic artists and illustrators there. It inspires you. The one thing I wish is that Bill Watterson wasn't such a recluse. If he showed up at a con he would be treated like a god. Everybody loves Calvin and Hobbes. That would be great.

Kevin, this is a bunch of fun for me following these links. I'm seeing lots of cool artwork for the first time. (And this solidifies my opinion that you belong in that league.)

Laughing How many times have I heard that very same conversation at the bar? Folks are always waiting for Sunday afternoon to score some artwork, hoping the artist is in the mood for some last-minute wheelin'-n-dealin'!

The website is already up for Norwescon 2012 at our hotel. Here is the "guest-of-honor" artist: http://www.johnpicacio.com/ Cool stuff. I'll probably overhear folks at the bar plotting to get a "Picacio deal" on Sunday afternoon. Wink

That's funny, I have this guy's site bookmarked already. I like his stuff.

And thanks, Bob. I honestly DON'T belong in these guys class but I think there may be a little corner for me somewhere. And that's fine by me.

Well, here's what I see: a darn good artist who can write, and a darn good writer who can illustrate. And that separates you from all the darn good artists who don't write, and all the darn good writers who can't draw their way out of a paper bag. So yeah, there's definitely a darn corner for you somewhere. So keep on plugging away. Get to work on that darn Heroes and Villains book. And then, who knows? Maybe a comic strip... Think

I was driving home from work in the late afternoon yesterday, and I stopped at a Thai restaurant to bring home dinner. While I was waiting by the register for the take-out, a guy who was eating there got up from his table. He seemed kind of annoyed as he walked to the server station behind me. I heard him grumble "Can I get some soy sauce?" The waiter gave him a bottle and said something to the diner that I didn't pay attention to. The annoyed guy snapped back "That's what she said," and stomped back to his seat. Shocked

Dog-gonnit, I missed a TWSS! I mean, I heard the TWSS, but not the remark that provoked it. And now, with Michael Scott out of the picture, TWSSs will be getting rarer and rarer. What could that Thai waiter have innocently said? Think

KG, if any more stories from the New York ComicCon come back to ya, I'd like to hear them.

That is hilarious, Bob! What could they have said to prompt a TWSS? "Be careful, that's sticky." "Watch it, it comes out quickly." "Table five has the bigger one". Lol... The possibilities are endless!

This sounds like an exercise from Michael Scott's comedy improv class; Going around the room, everybody would have to come up with something that the Thai waiter might have innocently said to provoke the TWSS. All the other improv students would take their turn, with lines like "Here; grab it firmly and shake vigorously." Then, Michael Scott would deliver some outrageously clunky single-entendre that would embarrass everyone else. Embarassed Mad Eh? Embarassed

The scene would end with Michael's talking head explaining that "When you're good, you've got to go for the gold."

lol... I could see that for sure.
"Watch out, it's kinda salty."
"It tends to dribble a little before it squirts out."
"There are two different types. One is browner."

LOL...

Laughing OK, look at the fun we can have with just one Thai waiter and his bottle of soy souce.... Confused... Shocked ... uh, you know what I mean. Anxious

Michael Scott was such a memorable character, that I can't stop imagining scenarios and his reactions to them. Wow. Talk about leaving big shoes to fill...

The other day on the internet, I read about one of the most overused, abused clichés in modern music lyrics: "That which doesn't kill me makes me stronger." Here is a music video of all the songs that rely on this phrase: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/13/what-doesnt-kill-you-makes-you-stronger-supercut_n_1009367.html
My first thought was that Michael Scott would mangle this cliché at an inopportune time, saying "That which doesn't kill me makes me stranger." Then it hits me that Steve Carell is no longer doing that character. Evil or Very Mad

This past weekend, our hotel hosted a wild n' crazy convention of... (ahem)... burlesque dancers. http://burlycon.org/ Late Saturday night, all of the dancers converged on the lounge dressed to the nines in full-battle burlesque regalia, with stilettos and fishnet stockings and feather boas. The usual crowd of pilots and flight attendants and weary travelers were, uh... somewhat surprised by the impromptu exhibition: Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked I wasn't expecting such a spectacle, either. Surprised

There were no public performances or competitions. It was mostly classes explaining the ins-and-outs and nuts-and-bolts of burlesque. One popular class was "Tassel Twirling 101." Apparently, getting your tassels to spin in opposite directions is quite a skill.
