Here are the Office's Emmy Submissions! Nominations are announced July 19...and the ceremony airs September 18. GOOO OFFICE!

Quote:
Comedy Series
The Office - “The Coup”

Lead Actor
The Office - Steve Carell, “Business School”

Supporting Actor
The Office - Leslie David Baker, “Beach Games”
The Office - Brian Baumgartner, “Phyllis’ Wedding”
The Office - David Denman, “Cocktails”
The Office - Ed Helms, episode?
The Office - John Krasinski, “Business School”
The Office - Paul Lieberstein, episode?
The Office - B.J. Novak, episode?
The Office - Oscar Nunez, “Gay Witch Hunt”
The Office - Rainn Wilson, “The Coup”

Supporting Actress
The Office - Jenna Fischer, “Grief Counseling”
The Office - Kate Flannery, episode?
The Office - Melora Hardin, “Cocktails”
The Office - Mindy Kaling, episode?
The Office - Angela Kinsey, episode?
The Office - Phyllis Smith, “Phyllis’ Wedding”

Guest Actress
The Office - Rashida Jones, “A Benihana Christmas”

Guest Actor
The Office - Wayne Wilderson, “The Convict”

Steve, Rainn, Jenna and John totally deserves nominations! I basically think alllll the cast does...but the minor characters don't really get enough screen time to showcase all their talents and usually nominees (even supporting) have bigger roles.

And THE COUP? I liked that episode, but it kind of suprised me that that's the submission. All the season 3 episodes are enhanced by previous understanding of the characters, but I think that's even true with the Coup...specifially Dwight and Michael's interation. Then again, I trust the producers to know what appeals to the Emmy voters...since they've had the experience of submitting episodes before.

Thanks for the info!

I'm also really shocked by The Coup being the nomination. It was a hilarious episode, but not one of the ones I'd think of as really stand out for the whole season. But maybe it has a little something that appeals to Emmy voters.

Good luck to all who get nominated, and hopefully the Emmy voters have better taste than those Golden Globe voters.

Pam: I suggested we flip a coin, but Angela said she doesn't like to gamble. Of course by saying that she was gambling that I wouldn't smack her.

I concur, why The Coup? Although I think Carell and Kras' noms for Business School is a good idea, although I think Carell shoulda been nominated for Benihana, cuz he just ran the gamut of all the emotions in that ep.

True....but I think they only would want to see 30-hour episodes, not an hour-long one.

I love The Coup! I've been trying to figure out how to explain why it's my favorite episode, but there's just so much to choose from. My favorite line has to be Karen's "Cally of Duty!" while she's throwing up her rocker sign.

These were all pretty great submissions. * starts clapping * Let's Go Office! * clap...clap...clap, clap, clap * Let's Go Office! Smile

I just had a vision of like thousands of Office fans sitting in a football stadium watching it on the jumbotron, doing the wave... Is this what the convention would be like?

I don't know....I didn't find the Call of Duty storyline all that funny. The part when Jim thinks he's in trouble, but it's really just because of his bad skills at the game is really creative...but besides that, I found it a bit blah. It also demonstrated Karen's crush on Jim though...which was cute. *sticks hands up to avoid major JAM strick*

I always imagine Dwight's Speech when I think of an Office Convention. It wouldn't be like the Coin Collector's convention Michael and Dwight mistakenly stumble upon. But the Battlestar Galactica convention Dwight remembers hearing about. We're all packed into the Radisson and fawning over glimpses of the cast. We would all be 12-year-old girls, just like Dwight when he talks about Starbuck.

Quote:
Deleted Scene 6

Michael: Ghosts. Lots of ghosts in this old Radisson. There it is, Rosebud Room. Memories. Wow, this turnout is pathetic. I packed the house, you know.
Dwight: Oh, no, I don't think this is it.
Michael: Numismatic. Numismatic Collectors. Nope, wrong room.

Michael: Okay. They got sports medicine seminar, nope. Science fiction convention, nope.
Dwight: Oh, yeah, I read about that. The entire cast of Battlestar Galactica is gonna be here, including Starbuck. I'm so in love with her.
Michael: You're weird.
Dwight: No, no, no. It's totally normal, 'cause she's not a Cylon or anything. She's just a great human fighter pilot. If I see her, my heart will explode.
Michael: Are you a 12-year-old girl? I don't know. There we go.

LOL I love the "This turn out is pathetic" Oh Dwight! Yes...well if we could incorporate all that you mentioned AND a stadium with the Office on a jumbotron...I would be pleased. Smile

I don't know what that means, but it cracked my stuff up! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I was scratching my head over Jenna's episode admission. Personally, I'd have gone with The Initiation for her and John's submission. That phone call at the end ran the entire emotional gamut for both of them, and totally Emmy worthy.

Runner up: The last few seconds of Gay Witch Hunt when Dwight sets off the gaydar and the camera pans quickly from him, to Oscar and finally to Pam. Jenna went from smiling to thoughtful to wistful in the space of about 8 seconds. She's so great...

::clap-clap:: Let's Go Office! ::clap-clap:: ::clap-clap::

I think they went with the eps where they had more screen time and they were more - stand-alone, don't really need to know everything about the characters and story, know what I mean?

I'm planning on researching this subject a little more and doing a post about it. I know that one consideration is that they need a stand-alone episode--there's no way to guarantee that the ATAS judges have seen any episodes of "The Office" (or any show being submitted for consideration, for that matter), let alone multiple episodes. So you need a strong show that doesn't require too much inside-information.

Also, there was a rule put into effect last year that helps out shows that may not have the highest Nielsen ratings--some people call it the "Lauren Graham rule," although the Gilmore Girls star didn't get a nom :-/ Hopefully this is the year for her since it's the last season.

But back to The Office--I think John and Jenna have a good shot this year. I think they should have been recognized for the past two years, but it is very difficult to get recognized as a relative 'newcomer' to the biz. We'll see on July 19, though!

I remember that. Everyone said how now shows that were so great but low on the ratings would get noms (like Gilmore Girls), and then GG didn't get nominated. I love irony.

Wow...I didn't even know about any of this...interesting. It's sad cause though GG deserves nominations to make up for years past, this was not their strongest season. Anyway...what are we talking about? How great Karen was in Benihana Christmas? Right! Definite Emmy material! (Who was Wayne Wilderson?)

EDIT: Oohh It's Martin!! He should get an Emmy for those Fruit of the Loom commercials!

I can see why some might not think The Coup was the funniest episode, but I think as a stand alone episode it has all the qualities of a great Office episode so I can see why it was submited. ElyseMoretti is right that if the Emmys continue what they did last year (which actually wasn't that effective since the same shows got nominated and some i.e. Lost were left off after winning the previous year) by screening episodes in front of voters it can possibly allow for a new crop of nominees to emerge. I really hope Jenna and Rainn get some nods. Especially Rainn since he was quite hilarious in The Coup. I can't wait to see the other cast choices for episodes as well!

Ok...that sounds familiar...like its an NBC joke, but not an Office joke. Basically I am asking what the heck you're talking about.
