Why thank you...just the other day, azjeans and I were arguing about whether it's a good starter episode for introing new ppl to the show. And I think it is because it makes sense to do things chronologically and because we need to go back to our roots and The Pilot is so much like the British pilot that it's a good place to see where we are coming from...and that's my reasoning. _________________ Team Karen |

I disagreed that the pilot was the best ep to start people off, I think Diversity Day is better. I personally didn't think the Pilot was the greatest episode. The only reason I stuck with the show after watching the Pilot was because I saw potential in the series. With D-Day, it truly brought the funny, no 'potential' to be seen, it had already reached it. Plus, copying the British version is a bad idea, or rather, a silly one. The UK and US versions of The Office are sprawlingly different, Michael Scott is different from David Brent, so using the same jokes between the two characters feels a bit awkward. D-Day was the first ep in the series that showcased the American characters and highlighted the differences between the two series. |

I admit...D-Day was when I KNEW this show was meant for me but I didn't really understand the whoe til I saw the pilot. And I think the fact that it is so much like the UK version and David Brent just isn't that bad. _________________ Team Karen |

I hesitate to show newcomers to the show the Pilot right way. It definitely sets up the series really well introducing the characters and all. But it didn't have as many half out loud moments as say The Alliance, (if you want to stay within S1) or The Injury (if you just chose a funny S2 episode).
I prefer to show folks the show in the proper order starting with the Pilot, especially once I know they "get it" and will enjoy the humor. If I'm trying to showcase the show to a more casual viewer, I try to highlight the episodes that have the shortest amount of time between the laughs.
I LOVE the Jell-O prank in the Pilot. It is a beautiful beginning of what has become a long list of on-screen pranks.
The Pilot is pretty much word for word the U.K. Pilot, but you wouldn't know that if you had never been exposed to The Office in anyway. My favorite S1 episode is Diversity Day. I agree, it really sets the U.S. version apart from the U.K. original. |
