7 OCT 2010: Andy invites the entire office to his community theater production of Sweeney Todd in hopes that Erin will attend. Michael tries to put his jealousy aside and enjoy the performance while Jim and Pam struggle with their incompetent babysitter.

Once again, I felt that rush of power as I unlocked this topic. But my key ring seems to be getting heavier all the time... I can feel it pulling on my pants...
Never mind all that, it's kgreene's turn at bat to write the LITO recap. I can picture him right after the show, frantically phoning in his review, just like Creed. |

I want to wait for KG's recap before we begin to earnestly dissect the episode. But I will mention this: as a bartender, I found the scene of Pam and Jim drinking Bailey's and orange juice profoundly disturbing.
... and where did the Halperts get those beautiful, expensive wineglasses to quaff this concoction? Do they store them in the car, along with Bailey's and orange juice for just such an occasion?
Tonight at work I'm going to mix a Bailey's Irish Cream and orange juice, and I will report back to LITO with my taste-test results. |

how did that baliey's and oj taste? I can't drink anymore, because I am a diabetic. I thought the episode was ok. I thought they were good about setting up more conflict this episode. _________________ I don't spell too good, and my grammar is abysmal. finally got a chance to see this ep. I liked it. It certainly made me take more of an interest in the Andy/Erin relationship. It was very sweet somehow between them.
I thought it was interesting how they're playing the Dwangela plot now. Is Angela reading "The Rules" book? Certainly seems like she's playing Dwight...and winning.
the drinking scene with pam & jim was kind of weird. odd how they turn to drinking alcohol (in their car) after they retrieve their infant daughter from incompetent babysitter Erin.
I just reread what I wrote and boy did that sound judgmental! I enjoy a drink or two myself actually, but it seemed odd that they would be enjoying a drink with baby CeCe...in the car! Ya know?
anyway. enjoyable ep. I am also looking forward to Kevin's recap. _________________ "Sandals Jamaica Mon" |

LOL... I'm with YOU, iQuit!!! ENOUGH with the singing and dancing, already!
My recap is up, peoples! Sorry for the delay. And yeah, Jim and Pam drinking in the car with the baby is kinda funny. I guess if Jim keeps it to one drink it's ok. Bob, what's the ruling on the drink? Will there be a rash of Irish Orange Creams at the bar now? By the way, slightly off subject, I LOVE orange creamsicles. Those are some of the best things on earth.
This wasn't a funny, hilarious episode but, like iQuit said, it set up some conflict with some romantic entanglements. Who doesn't like that? I anxiously await Jim and Pam's impending conflict. I wonder if they will just treat it as a joke or will they take the opportunity to really explore some interesting shades in the characters. We'll see. _________________ "You gotta get out there and EARN, son!"

how did that baliey's and oj taste? |
So, with the whole bar watching the experiment I took a big swig of a Bailey's Irish Cream and orange juice. Then I exclaimed "It tastes so good in my mouth," and the whole bar answered "That's what she said!"
Actually, that never happened. What did happen is this: When you mix the two, a chemical reaction takes place; the concoction curdles and gels into streams of unspeakably awful semi-solids. This is a pretty good joke on the part of the writers. They surely knew the Office fans would attempt to replicate Jim and Pam's drink of choice, perhaps in a romantic setting. What results is a churning urn of burning funk. Yikes. The acid in the OJ reacts with something in the Bailey's... but what, I don't know. Dang it, I'm not a scientist.
KG's recap is up and makes several good points. Let's get our Sweeney on! |

Yahoo Answers addresses the "Bailey's and OJ cocktail:" Bailey's is dairy based. Orange is acid. Acid denatures the proteins in the milk and causes it to curdle. Don't consume it, as it is disgusting and will probably make you sick.
So not only were Jim and Pam drinking alcoholic beverages in their car, with CeCe along for the ride, but they are also guilty of denaturing milk proteins! (which sounds like something a disgusted Dwight would say in a sanctimonious "talking head.") I suspect that in the near future we will hear a confession from one of the Office writing staff (my money's on BJ Novak) that they had a good laugh when they sneaked that... ahem... "gag" drink into the script!

I agree that The Office should now take a break from the song-and-dance routines; but there is an upcoming episode based on "Glee," which will probably feature more glorious choreography and plenty of spectacular singing. |

Is that a joke? I sure hope so!
I do like Glee. It's campy fun.
But The Office is not Glee. Not even close. Why are they jumping on all these pop-culture band wagons?! It's sooo jump the shark! pathetic... _________________ "Sandals Jamaica Mon" |

Here are the details for the "Glee" episode, scheduled for November 11th:
http://perezhilton.com/2010-10-10-details-on-the-office-glee-episode
I'm not too horrified by this. Kelly Kapoor and Erin are the instigators of the Dunder-Mifflin "Glee party," and that feels like something they would do. I think it is hilarious that NBC isn't too thrilled about The Office plugging a Fox TV show.
I'm not a huge fan of the dog-and-pony-song-and-dance numbers that so many Office fans find charming. But "Andy's Play" was handled well, so I think we should give the show the benefit of the doubt on this one. But I don't want to see an episode done entirely to ABBA songs. |

This is a very interesting article, about the various "Office" offshoots around the world.
http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/meast/10/07/the.office.israeli.style/
It's fun to pick the Pams and Jims out from the group portraits!
Now, back to "Andy's Play." I like KG's observation he made in his recap about Creed: At first he is shown phoning in a review of the play, which is funny; but then he tells Michael Scott to be careful, because he's seen the Sweeney Todd guy kill people. Which is also funny, but does that mean that Creed drifts in and out of lucidity? Well, I guess that's funny, too. |

There is a magnet on the side of the Dunder-Mifflin refrigerator that says "SNÖ." I researched this for the "Scrantonicity" column, and SNÖ Mountain is the new name for the Montage Ski Resort just outside of Scranton. I also had to learn how to type an umlaut on my Apple Mac computer, and I will share my new-found knowledge here:
... (ahem)... Simultaneously press the "option" key and the letter "u." That will impart the umlaut above the space where you will then type the letter to be, uh... umlauted? Here are instructions for PC users: http://desktoppub.about.com/cs/finetypography/ht/umlaut.htm
Something tells me that Dwight Schrute would love umlauts, because they are Germanic in origin and they have this "heavy-metal" aura about them. If I was an Office writer, I would script at least a Dwight Schrute talking head, in which he waxes eloquently about the power and grace of the umlaut... he might ponder whether to start signing his name "Dwïght Schrüte." |

You're not crazy, Donna. Apple computers have "option" keys, while PCs have "alt" keys. They perform many of the same functions. Also, some laptops have abbreviated keyboards to save room, but there should be an "alt" key somewhere. So follow these instructions http://desktoppub.about.com/cs/finetypography/ht/umlaut.htm and you'll soon be typing lots of umlauts. |

Under EDIT in your finder, Donna, the last selection should be Special Characters. If you go to that, highlight the special one you want and then go back to this screen you will be able to type it in your text. Unless you have an older Mac... then you won't have that function. _________________ "You gotta get out there and EARN, son!"

Donna, not only have I become an ümlautin'-fool, I have also learned how to make the Swedish accent mark ˚ known as the kål. All I need now is a recipe for Swedish meatballs. (Pretend this emoticon is Scandinavian, wearing Helly Hansen® sunglasses.)
Here are a couple websites that may help:

http://faculty.weber.edu/tmathews/grammar/Compmark.html
May lots and lots of umlauts come your way. |
