I've never heard of a flash mob. |
According to the Urban Dictionary:
A "flash mob" is a organized event where people appear out of nowhere to do a pre-determined action, in a pre-determined place at a pre-determined time, designed to amuse and confuse surrounding people. Then they quickly disperse. Usually harmless and funny. Think like massive pilow fights in town centers and things of the like. Usually organized on the internet, through e-mail and/or newsgroup postings.
So, "flash mobs" don't necessarily dance, but spontaneous musical numbers do make great videos. That's what makes the "Sound Of Music Train Station" so much fun; not only is the choreography cool, but the slack-jawed stares of the passers-by are a hoot! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EYAUazLI9k
Here's a flash mob video where 50 British college kids freeze-framed themselves in a supermarket: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4GMXavfKPY Here is a whole website of "flash mobs:" http://www.listropolis.com/2009/02/24-flash-mobs-you-need-to-see-to-believe-videos/ Stunts like these seem fun to pull off, and the innocent bystanders that are unwitting witnesses have a hilarious story to tell their friends about... not to mention 15 minutes' worth of internet fame. If Michael Scott wanted to organize a Dunder-Mifflin "flash mob" at Steamtown Mall, Kelly Kapoor and Erin Hannon would eagerly raise their hands to volunteer!
If LITO wanted to mobilize members into a "flash mob," Jossifer could coordinate an east coast and a west coast group. LITO turnout in the midwestern states might be, uh... a little on the "light" side. |

Not sure if this qualifies as a Flash Mob thing... I guess it would be. A Cos-Play Flash Mob. A little while back these guys broke into a re-enactment of the New York Public Library scene of Ghostbusters... at the New York Public Library. It was pretty cool, actually. Somebody ran around in a Slimer costume and the Ghostbusters chased him. Some people were like "WTF?".
And I think this same group did a Star Wars scene on the subway... lol...
Hey. Am I recapping tomorrow? I have no idea who's turn it is... _________________ "You gotta get out there and EARN, son!"

Donna steps up to the plate tomorrow. You're in the on-deck circle. Suri is in the hole. I'm back in the clubhouse watching "Naked Gun"... er, I mean game film.
"In the hole" is baseball jargon for the second batter next up. But please, feel free to unleash your "inner Michael Scott" here. |

Aaaand... here it is! http://mashable.com/2010/05/18/ghostbusters-improv-everywhere/ This is funny stuff! My favorite part of these "flash mob"-type highjinks is the WTF-looks on people's faces. (confused library patrons)
If I was sitting in the library, studying some lengthy, dreary, bone-dry text, I would love to witness a wacky skit like this unfold. |
