| This was a pretty darn good episode. The line "Who is Justice Beaver?" made me fall off the couch laughing. (Maybe I was sitting too close to the edge, anyway, though.) |

Let me see if I can explain this correctly.
One of the things that I love (and I guess all of us love) about this show is how it does the small things. The little character things that amuse us about these people. There's no over selling a lot of the gags. There just simple little things that tickle us. This episode had one of those for me, a thing they don't do often at all but just speaks to how well we know these characters.
Way back in "Health Care" there's a small Pam thing that always makes me laugh. Jim and Pam enter the conference room that Dwight has commandeered as an office to complain about the crazy cuts Dwight has made in their health plan. Jim and Dwight start to bicker about whether the room is Dwight's office or the conference room when Pam, knowing how long this can go on, simply touches Jim on the arm to stop him. It's just a little thing but I love it. She knows how these two are and just wants to stop them and get to the problem. It's a tiny, tiny thing but it always amuses me.
In "Todd Packer", during the cold opening, they actually kind of revisit that moment. Pam, immediately sensing that Jim is all set to engage Dwight in some long drawn out nonsense, just gets up and kisses him on the cheek and leaves. And we see that she's right, as it is apparently quite a bit of time later and the two are still going on about it. That killed me. I love the little things that they do on this show, not crazy big comedy moments, but little character things that make you realize how much they know each other and how much we know them. Boy, I love this show.
And, yeah, it was a pretty darn good episode. _________________ "You gotta get out there and EARN, son!"

And that is a pretty darn good explanation, KG! Thanks for pointing that out. Little moments like that are what separate the great shows from merely good ones. |

I completely agree with everything you said Kevin. I didn't come up with the comparison to the Health Care episode, but you are right; it's exactly like that.
Jim and Dwight teaming up to prank Packer was similar to The Alliance as well, it's an alliance between the two, but actually a sub-prank on Dwight. It's amazing to me that a comedy show in it's 7th season can still incorporate things that are a throw back to the very first season, which is what made us all fall in love with the show in the first place.
I also couldn't stop laughing at Dwight continuously referencing Harry Potter world while talking to Packer on the phone. It's another throw back to Season 3 & 4 where we find out that Dwight loves Harry Potter.
This was an excellent episode and although my recap ended up on a bit of the serious side, there were lots of things I laughed at and squeed about and it really made me feel like the old Office was back. I just hope they can keep this standard up for the rest of the season.
I also think this is the fastest I got a recap up all season (so far) and that's saying something. |

Great ep!
and I just looovve typing that!
isn't it so nice to have a run of wonderful episodes to gush about? we've weathered enough stinkers together. it's fun to wax poetic about great episodes for a change.
I enjoyed the same bits you all did. Highlights for me were: the JAM tenderness, Jim/Dwight prank fun, Todd Packer in all his glory, Michael's protection of Holly.
it was funny, sweet, nostalgic. Little bits of goodness throughout.
Kev, thanks for pointing out the little sweet JAM moments from past classics and "Todd Packer". You're right, it's the little moments that resonate for us. It touches you. Like being part of an inside joke. Who knows JAM love or Jim/Dwight relationship better than us constant fans? The writers honor us with those little moments.
and Suri, your recap analysis of Michael Scott's growing enlightenment was wonderful and spot-on. Such a nice swan-song for the character of Michael Scott to go out on a high-note having finally found love (I'm guessing here of course, but how could they NOT give him this ending??) I'd be pretty sad if they didn't continue this trend for our beloved "World's Best Boss".
and last, but not least, Bob...
your Scrantonicity is always fun and thorough. And this week, it's given me the added bonus of a craving for Tasty Kake, Kandy Kake. Darn you! lol
I'm back to looking forward to Office Thursday. _________________ "Sandals Jamaica Mon" |

That is egregious!, if not full-on corrupt! Awhile back, I tried to log on to LITO using the computers in our hotel lobby, and I got the dreaded message "Access Denied!" I'll have to try that again. ... Hmm... So, that's the reason that we have so little web traffic on LITO; we're banned almost everywhere!
It must have been that whole LITO "showering" sequence from awhile ago that did us in. |

Welcome back, KG! Getting you up-to-date on the news around here: LITO reader Amanda announced she is doing her University Of Alabama master's thesis on The Office, and she needed our help with surveys for her research. And, she has now reached her goal with the number of surveys necessary for a legitimate sampling. Let's hear it for LITO, supporting both The Office and higher education.
Oh, and one dangling thread about "Todd Packer"... do you suppose we've seen or heard the last of him? Michael will be gone soon; will we get any closure on the prank that led him down to Florida? Thinking outside the box, maybe Jo Bennett will take a liking to him... ... Probaby not. If they leave that thread dangling, it would be fair game for Office fiction writers to complete. |

I fear that may be it for Todd Packer at least for this season. Michael seems to have gotten over his man-crush since Todd dissed his beloved Holly.
Who knows what will happen once The Office is without their fearless leader? We may see Todd Packer surface again down the line, just to stir things up. _________________ "Sandals Jamaica Mon" |

I feel what youre saying...one of my favourite moments of those is in 5th season, when Jim tries to prove to Dwight that he e is stealing company time using a stopwatch everytime he yawns, talks personal, or even pee...and when he goes to Andy and starts talking nonsenses about Battlestar Gallactica and Dwight being unable to respond...lol, priceless |
