I hope my advice helps, Donna.

It really does, Bob. What hindered me is that when I called Apple's sales line to discuss their computers pros/cons and they started talking processors, memory, screen size, etc.. Then I go online to look at PC's with similar/same specs and what do I find? About 200 PC's with the same specs as the Apple computer I was looking at and for ALOT less money. I mean ALOT less! Like $600-$800 less.

But, I've also been quizzing friends on their opinions on this subject, and people really do seem to prefer Apple. So, I guess it's worth the extra cost in the end?

My hubby and I are leaning towards Apple for sure. We have an Apple store about 45 minutes drive from us. This week is too busy to make the trek & spend the time we need at the store, but we are hoping to get there mid-week next week. My husband does get a slight discount being a paid firefighter (I guess similar to Ann's teacher discount), so that's a bonus. It won't go far in making up for that $600+ extra cost, but at least it's something. Rolling Eyes

An extra bonus is that for $100 more, we can have the Apple store put all our files from our old computer on the new one and get a one-on-one tutorial on how to use the computer. I probably don't need that, but my husband definitely does. It will make buying a new type of computer easier for him if he had a slight heads-up from the get-go on how Apple is different from our old PC's.

I'm excited for a desk top computer that we can rely on. Our desktop has been quite the lemon as of late. But to be fair, it's at least 4-5 years old and very well used by my family.

I just downloaded a few books, but as soon as I'm done with those, I will download Steve Jobs biography. It sounds like a very interesting read. Thanks for the heads-up on everything, Bob. Hope everyone else is doing well. Smile Smile

There is an Apple store about 6 miles from our house, and we went for the same good deal. They transferred all of our files from the old computer, and we signed up for several tutorials from the ultra-ultra-cool Apple staff. They showed us how to make a nifty school newsletter for Ann's class.

So, are Apple products ultimately worth the extra money? I don't know... Think... I just know that we started off as Apple users, and we've stuck with them, and now everyone at the Apple store just seems so cool, and everybody outside the store looking in, with their faces desperately pressed up against the glass just seems so dorky... it's like we're sitting at the cool table in the high school cafeteria, and that's worth something. Very Happy ... Rolling Eyes

Hey, there's a new Office episode on tomorrow night. That's worth something, too. Very Happy... Rolling Eyes

I officially endorse this thread. My IMAC rules. Will never go back to a PC ever again.

Hmm...two more ringing endorsements on Apple? Well then, it's settled! No luck finding a free morning to go this week. One of my kids had an emergency dental visit, so that shot that free day. Sad

Maybe next week....

Thanks for all the advice. I soon hope to feel slightly cooler than normal. Cool
